When Amanda Hodder saw the tiny, helpless creature, she made an unwavering promise: she would do everything in her power to save him.
Teaming up with Love Your Feral Felines, Amanda embarked on a mission to nurse him back to health, fully aware of the challenges ahead.
Space Bear weighed only about 5 ounces, far below the healthy weight for a kitten of his age, and was in desperate need of round-the-clock care.
Amanda began feeding him every two hours, day and night, carefully monitoring his condition and ensuring he stayed warm and safe.
By the second day in foster care, Amanda shared an update with her followers: Space Bear was extremely thin, covered in fleas, and had little appetite.
Rescue mentors had warned that newborns could take sudden turns, and his delicate state meant every moment was critical. Subcutaneous fluids, B12 injections, and Pedialyte in his formula were all recommended to support his fragile body.
“My rescue mentors said they were concerned, that he looked like he could be fading and to be prepared for the possibility that he may not make it. They recommended subcutaneous fluids every 8 hours, B12 injections, and adding Pedialyte to his formula.”
Amanda chose to withhold his name from the public for a time, fearing heartbreak if his condition worsened. Even so, generous donations helped cover his medical care and supplies.

“I’m continuing to gain weight and show good signs. Mom says because I’m still under a pound, I’m being watched very carefully because I could crash again at any time. I’m almost 300 grams, my stools are perfect, and I’m in good spirits.”
“I’m always purring and love all the extra attention I’m getting. I don’t like getting poked with needles but afterward, the medicine makes me feel better. Foster mom says something still seems off though, and she hopes I grow out of it.”
