San Diego Rescue Saves Kitten With ‘Worried Eyes’ That Captures Everyone’s Heart

Get ready for a serious dose of cuteness, because Bum, the cat with the world’s most worried little face, is here to melt your heart.

This sweet feline became an internet sensation thanks to his permanently concerned expression, but behind those big crossed eyes lies a happy, affectionate kitty who’s anything but sad.

A Rough Beginning With A Happy Twist

Bum’s story began when he was just four weeks old, found abandoned alongside his four siblings in California.

Luckily, a kind group of people discovered the litter and brought them to the San Diego Humane Society, where they were safe, warm, and finally cared for.

It didn’t take long for the shelter staff to notice something different about the tiny grey kitten.

Unlike his brothers and sisters, Bum had crossed eyes, a condition known as strabismus, which is sometimes seen in Siamese cats.

Combined with his unique facial markings, this gave him a look of constant concern, as if he was forever worried about the state of the world.

But make no mistake, Bum is a happy, playful cat who just happens to look a little extra expressive.

A Unique Face, A Big Heart

Soon after arriving at the shelter, Bum caught the attention of Courtney, one of the San Diego Humane Society volunteers. She instantly fell in love with the little kitten and decided to adopt him.

“He is shy with new people, but once he knows you, he is a love bug. He loves morning cuddles and to sleep under the covers! He also loves other cats, especially kittens, and has helped raise multiple Foster litters and even spend time with injured ones who are being rehabilitated.”

While his crossed eyes don’t seriously affect his vision, they certainly give him an unforgettable face, one that has charmed cat lovers all over the world. Courtney added,

“He is almost as goofy and silly as he looks, but SO SO smart and bright.”

Once photos of Bum started circulating online, his adorable anxious expression made him an instant viral hit. People from across the globe couldn’t get enough of his endearing face and heartwarming story.

But behind the fame, Bum remained the same gentle, loving cat who adored helping other animals.

As he grew, Bum became something of a mentor to kittens coming through the foster programme. His calm, caring nature helped shy or frightened kittens feel safe, while his playful side encouraged them to explore and have fun.

Bum All Grown Up

These days, Bum is a handsome, fluffy adult cat living his best life with Courtney in sunny California.

When he’s not cuddling with new foster kittens, he enjoys lounging with his best friend, Admiral Kitty Kingman, another cat with a personality as big as his own.

Despite his permanently worried look, Bum is a happy soul who loves attention, naps, and snacks, lots of snacks.

He’s also instantly recognisable thanks to his adorable freckle on his nose, a tiny detail that makes his face even more memorable.

Courtney jokes that Bum’s biggest mission these days is to make sure she never forgets mealtime:

If he’s not cuddling or snoozing, you’ll find him next to his food bowl, politely, and sometimes loudly, reminding me it’s dinner time.

A Cat That Teaches Kindness

Bum may look worried, but he’s a shining example of how love and compassion can transform a life. Once an abandoned kitten, he’s now surrounded by warmth, affection, and a purpose, helping other cats find the same happiness he did.

If Bum’s adorable face has stolen your heart, you can follow his adventures on Instagram, where his daily posts continue to spread joy (and a few giggles) to thousands of fans.

After all, the world can always use more cats like Bum, a little cross-eyed, a little quirky, and full of love.
