Florida Family’s Lost Cat Found 900 Miles Away In North Carolina And The Reunion Goes Viral

cat disappears during familys trip

Imagine you go on a summer trip, have a great time, and suddenly your cat decides to go on her own vacation… 900 miles away!

That’s basically what happened to one Florida family when their adventurous cat, Xena, disappeared during what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway.

What followed was a heart-stopping, emotional rollercoaster that ended in the most unexpected reunion ever.

It all started in Corolla, North Carolina. The family had brought Xena along for the trip, probably thinking she’d enjoy a bit of vacation too.

But one day, while her owners visited Corolla on the Outer Banks, something spooked Xena and she slipped out of her harness. In a split second, she bolted and disappeared.

The family searched high and low, but there was no sign of her anywhere. When the trip ended, they had to drive all the way back home to Boynton Beach without their kitty.

Days turned into weeks, and there was no news about Xena. Then, almost two months later, a miracle finally arrived.

Staff at the Currituck Animal Shelter in North Carolina got a call about a cat wandering near a storm drain, just half a mile from where Xena had vanished in the Tar Heel State.

The poor thing looked weak and thin, limping on one paw. The shelter shared on Facebook:

“Animal Control received a call last week about an injured cat in Corolla. Officer Griffith responded, not knowing if she was going to be able to catch the cat that night or leave a trap and return if/when the cat went in the trap. Luckily, she was able to locate and bring the cat back to the shelter that evening.”

But despite her rough shape, the cat was quite “vocal”. She was meowing loudly, eager for attention. When the staff scanned her for a microchip, everything changed…

The screen flashed a Florida address. It was Xena. The same cat who had been missing for weeks was now safe in the hands of people ready to help her.

When the shelter called her family, they were stunned. After so long with no word, they had nearly given up hope.

But now their little traveler had been found. Without thinking twice, they jumped in the car and made the 900-mile trip back to North Carolina to get her.

When the family finally arrived, the reunion was everything you’d imagine and more. Everyone felt the same thing: relief, joy, and pure love.

The shelter shared:

“Xena and her dad hit the road back home! This is a great reminder to be sure that your pets microchip information is correct and also to speak with your veterinarian or reach out for resources to have your pet microchipped if they are not already.”

Yes, that tiny piece of technology made all the difference. It connected one lost cat to her heartbroken family miles away.

Back home in Boynton Beach, Xena’s slowly recovering. She’s safe, loved, and back where she belongs.

And while her adventure was one wild ride, one thing’s for sure: she won’t be slipping out of her harness again anytime soon.
