NYC Foster Mom Shares Emotional Update On Abused Dog’s Biting Incident And People Are Hooked
Isabel Klee isn’t just any foster mom. She’s kind of a legend in the Brooklyn rescue community. She’s opened her home to around 30 dogs, many of them “hard cases” that would make most people hesitate.
But then came Whimsy, a frail, emaciated Pit Bull mix found wandering the streets, “covered in blood and feces.”
The moment Isabel saw her, she knew she couldn’t walk away. This little dog deserved love, patience, and a chance at a better life.
Despite the scars, the trauma, and the rough past, something in Whimsy’s eyes told her this little dog still had so much love to give.
Whimsey had been through severe neglect and abuse, yet the moment Isabel brought her home, this poor girl melted into love.
She bonded instantly with Isabel’s dog, Simon, and for a while, everything seemed peaceful.
But that peace didn’t last long…
One day, while out for a walk through a noisy street full of people, cars, and construction, Whimsy suddenly lunged and latched onto another dog’s lip.
Isabel was in shock. Whimsy had never shown aggression before, not to people, not to other dogs. The whole situation was chaotic and heartbreaking as the two dogs were finally pulled apart.
Instead of hiding from it, Isabel did what she always does: she faced it with honesty.
She took full responsibility, reached out to the rescue organization, and publicly apologized to the other pet parents.
She didn’t try to justify anything. She made it clear that this was her foster dog, that Whimsy had endured a lot, and that she was fully committed to helping her heal.
In a heartfelt update, Isabel opened up to her followers:
“I walk this dog four times a day and she’s never had a single reaction to another dog on a walk so I couldn’t have predicted that she would act this way. Now I know to handle her differently on walks than I had previously been handling her.”
Instead of giving up, she changed her entire approach, sharing:
“For at least the next week or so, we’re just going to completely take a break from walks. We’ve been doing a lot of naps, a lot of rest.”
She even bought Whimsy a special vest that says, “Anxious Dog, Please Respect My Space,” along with a leash tag reading, “Nervous – Please give me space.”
When the time comes, Whimsy will get back to her walks, but this time with a little more distance and understanding.
There’s one thing Isabel refuses to do, and that is to use punishment or “boot camp” methods, as some followers and dog trainers suggested to her on TikTok.
After fostering so many dogs with big emotional scars, she knows that kindness is the only way through, sharing:
“I know how important healing can be. I am taking full accountability for what happened. I think I just took her first week behavior at face value and assumed she is so great with dogs because she’s so great with Simon and she’s been great with all the dogs she’s passed on walks before. It’s been a huge learning lesson for me. I will apply it to all my fosters moving forward.”
As Isabel spoke during the video, Whimsy cuddled close, eyes full of love for the woman who refused to give up on her.
That’s the thing about Isabel: she sees beyond the mistakes. She sees the heart still trying to heal beneath the scars.
And no matter how long it takes, she’ll be there for Whimsy, guiding her, loving her, and showing her what second chances really mean.
