Connecticut Team Makes An Upsetting Discovery In A Sealed Container By The Roadside

Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter from Connecticut got a call that immediately raised alarm bells: one of their volunteers had come across a cat trapped inside a sealed container.

When the rescue team finally arrived, the scene stopped them in their tracks. Inside the container wasn’t just a single cat; it was an entire little family.

A mama cat and all her babies were packed inside together, turning a terrifying discovery into something even more shocking and emotional.

The small feline family of five lay unresponsive, their fragile bodies limp and their breathing shallow. 

Their tiny faces reflected the suffering they had endured in the airless space.

While struggling for her babies’ lives, the poor mama cat had even lost her hearing. The scene was truly heartbreaking.

The shelter shared on their Facebook page:

“We received a frantic phone call from one of our volunteers that someone had found a mom cat and 4 babies in a Tupperware bin sealed on the side of the road… The mom and babies were not conscious… Mom appeared deaf at initial intake.”

The rescue team worked relentlessly to bring the tiny cats back from the brink. They were quickly taken for emergency treatment, where proper care could begin.

The kittens showed multiple puncture wounds across their backs, likely caused by their mother’s desperate attempts to pull them free from the container.

Tragically, one did not survive, but the others managed to cling to life. The shelter team devoted themselves to nurturing the little family back to health. 

Grateful for the chance to keep her kittens safe, the mother cat watched over them closely, her eyes full of relief and love, ensuring her babies felt comforted and protected.

Recognizing the family’s resilient spirit, the staff named them after rock stars – mom Stevie Nicks and her babies Van Halen, Aerosmith, and Metallica.

The shelter’s next update brought smiles to many faces:

“They are all gaining weight and doing well. One kitten is requiring extra support and feedings but overall considering what they have been through – we are really impressed with their recovery.”

Supported by a caring volunteer who offered fostering, and Pieper Vet Staff and Doctors’ medical care, the devoted team nursed the kitties back to health. 

Stevie regained her hearing, and her babies flourished into a lively bunch of explorers.

Meanwhile, the shelter shared updates about their progress online. Generous donations from kind-hearted people began pouring in, ensuring Stevie and her kittens had everything they needed to thrive in their new lives.

The shelter shared:

“We literally save so many lives because of all of you who support us! Thank you for caring for so many abandoned, abused, and neglected animals – you help us to save lives every day!”

At last, the time came for this resilient little family to begin their next chapter – finding a forever home.

The shelter proudly shared the news of their adoption, hopeful that each one would get the happy ending they so deserved.

Though it was bittersweet for the staff to say goodbye after all the struggles they had faced together, their hearts were full. 

They knew they had given the feline family the most precious gift of all: a safe and loving future.

Before long, each kitten found a loving home. But as they settled in, an unexpected consequence of their time trapped in the container came to light.

One of the kittens, Van Halen, began to show problems with his jaw. His new family quickly reached out to the shelter, and a specialist confirmed the heartbreaking news – his jaw had fractured and healed incorrectly.

Thankfully, surgery was able to set things right, and with the devoted support of his humans, Van Halen started down the path to recovery. 

Through it all, he had extra comfort from his mom, Stevie, who continued to watch over him.

Yes, the loving mom never left her baby’s side, as Stevie and Van Halen were adopted together. The shelter shared:

“Stevie Nicks and Van Halen went home together and live with dogs (Stevie has made it known that it makes no difference that she’s a cat as she is top dog)!”
