Dog Wanders Into Virginia Daycare Alone, And Staff Quickly Realize He’s No Stranger

The other day at Dogtopia in Springfield, Virginia, the team was getting ready to close when an unusual visitor showed up. A lone dog wandered into the parking lot.

Security footage later showed him pausing to scan the area before confidently strolling right up to the front door as if he’d been coming there his whole life.

Without hesitation, the employees opened the door, and the pup walked right in. 

Calm, confident, and completely at ease, he headed straight to the play area. It didn’t take long for the staff to recognize him: it was Sampson.

Sampson wasn’t new to Dogtopia. He’s been a regular visitor for the past three years, attending daycare once a week, and it’s clear he loves every minute of it.

Apparently, he decided he wanted a little extra fun that day.

Earlier that morning, Sampson had slipped through a small gap in his backyard fence, leaving his family unaware of his escape.

While panic initially set in, they had a hunch about where he might be. Mike, Sampson’s dad, shared in an interview:

“This was actually the second time he did it. The first time was scary because we had no idea where he went. The second time was still scary, given the route to day care includes two main roads, but I was pretty confident I knew where he went, and that made me feel better.’”

Their instincts were right. Sampson had made his way to his favorite place, unbothered by the busy streets or tricky turns. 

When Dogtopia called the family to say he had arrived safely, the panic turned into relief. Sampson wasn’t just safe, he was exactly where he wanted to be, happily mingling with his friends and enjoying all the attention.

When his family arrived to pick him up, they were amazed. How did he remember the way on his own? How did he navigate the roads safely? 

While those questions remained unanswered, one thing was certain: Sampson had made up his mind about that bonus visit, and nothing would stop him.

Afterward, the family patched up the fence to prevent future escapes but promised Sampson another proper daycare visit later in the week.

The daycare staff couldn’t help but laugh, marveling at his determination and intelligence. 

To Sampson, Dogtopia isn’t just a daycare; it’s his happy place, a world where fun, friends, and treats await.
