Family Surrenders Cat And Her Blind Dog Friend, But Their Bond Leads Them To A New Home

While we all have our own passions and priorities, our pets devote their entire world to us. Now, imagine the pain of losing everything you hold dear in a single day…

That’s exactly what happened to a cat and his blind dog companion. One winter, a homeowner faced the difficult decision of surrendering his two beloved pets to Saving Grace Animal Society.

Realizing they couldn’t provide the level of care their pets needed, the family made the painful choice, thinking it was the best option. The Saving Grace Animal Society shared the details of the situation, explaining:

“The family felt an indoor retirement home was best for this blind boy and his ‘seeing eye cat.’”

Max, the “seeing-eye cat,” and Spike, the blind dog, had been the best of friends for as long as anyone could recall. Raised together, their bond was so deep and unbreakable that the thought of parting them seemed impossible.

Despite Spike’s blindness, he relied heavily on Max, who took on the role of guiding his friend through life with unwavering dedication.

When Erin Deems, the executive director of Saving Grace, first encountered Max and Spike, she was deeply moved by the bond they shared. She recalled the moment, saying:

“It’s absolutely adorable. When we walked up onto the property, there was this tiny igloo shelter, and they were just cuddled in there right together.”

At first, the rescue team’s sympathy was mainly directed toward Spike, given his complete blindness. However, as they observed them more closely, they realized the depth of their connection.

He was more than willing to spend the rest of his days with his best feline friend, forming a duo that could melt anyone’s heart. Erin added:

“The cat has just kind of helped him in his little survival trek. They follow each other everywhere, they do every activity together and they sleep together.”

In addition to being a caring kitty who assists his blind companion, Max has a charming personality that can bring smiles to anyone’s face. Erin described him, saying:

“He’s a very friendly and social cat, he loves to explore and tell stories and he loves to play with toys.”

Because this paw-fect pair had grown up together and shared an unbreakable bond, it was clear to everyone that they needed to be adopted together. Separating them would have been unthinkable; it would have left both of them feeling lost.

“They came in as friends and they deserve to find a home together. We find it’ll just make the transition for an old senior dog that’s blind, it’ll just make it so much easier if his cat friend is with him because they don’t know life apart.”

All they truly needed was a loving home and a patient person who would appreciate them. Considering how irresistible they were, this wasn’t too much to ask for. Thankfully, Saving Grace found Max and Spike a forever home.

Max, ever the protective and affectionate cat, led his blind companion, Spike, to their new home, where they’ll enjoy the best years of their lives together.
