This Ohio Cat Can’t Stop Staring At His New Mom And The Reason Will Melt Your Heart

Have you ever met a pet who seems to have decided you belong to them? That’s exactly what happened to Imgur user theacaciasteph when she welcomed her new cat, Wilbur, into her home.
This sweet ginger kitty wasted no time letting everyone know that he had officially claimed his new human as his own.
From the moment Wilbur arrived, he made it clear he wasn’t going anywhere.
He immediately started staring at his new mom, following her from room to room, and refusing to give her a moment of peace.

She shared in an interview:
“My newly adopted cat Wilbur won’t stop staring at me. Soon after he came home he started staring. And he follows me around but not my husband.”
It turned out that Wilbur’s previous owners had simply decided they didn’t want him anymore.
There was nothing wrong with the little guy; he was just unlucky to end up in a home that couldn’t give him the love he deserved.

Now, in a home where he finally feels safe, Wilbur is determined to make up for lost time.
He doesn’t just follow his mom around; he makes sure she knows he’s paying attention at all times. He waits by the door as if he can recognize the sound of her car pulling up.
When she leaves for work, he gives her a look that seems to say, “How could you leave me?” His mom continued:
“He must’ve learned the sound of my car. He also does them when I’m leaving for work, like I’ve betrayed him.”

Wilbur keeps a close watch on his mom throughout the day, especially when she’s on the computer or busy doing tasks around the house.
At first, she thought he stared at everyone in the house, but soon realized he was laser-focused only on her.
Even if someone else pets him or tries to grab his attention, his gaze never leaves his favorite person.
His devotion even extends to watching over her interactions with their other cat, Chloe. Maybe a little jealousy is involved?

Who knows, but it’s all part of Wilbur’s personality.
While Wilbur’s obsessive staring might seem intense to some, his mom doesn’t mind it at all, sharing:
“I love him regardless of his creepiness.”
She has found clever ways to help him feel secure. She leaves a sweater with her scent near the bed so that Wilbur can feel close to her even when he isn’t physically on top of her.

Despite his clingy nature, Wilbur’s love is entirely pure and heartfelt. After experiencing the heartbreak of being abandoned, he’s finally found a home where he feels safe, cherished, and understood.
He simply wants to be near the person who gave him a second chance at life, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Wilbur may be a little intense with his staring and supervision, but it’s all his way of saying, “I love you and I’m not going anywhere.”
For anyone who has adopted a pet that clings, follows, or watches every move, you know that this kind of devotion is a gift, not a nuisance.
