Arizona Woman Thinks She Found A Puppy Covered In Cactus, Then Realizes It’s Not A Dog At All

Rescue and adoption stories are my favorite. It’s just beautiful to see compassionate people helping animals in need and transforming their lives.
However, some stories, despite being heartwarming and inspiring, come with unexpected twists and turns, just like this one.
It all started when Gwen Maxwell, a kind-hearted woman from Sun City West in Arizona, was tending her garden. While looking around, she noticed something unusual in one of her flower pots.
Curious, she approached to investigate and found a stray puppy completely covered in cacti. Gwen was left speechless…

The poor soul had painful spines piercing through his skin and was in desperate need of help. Gwen knew she needed to do something, but she couldn’t move the pup on her own.
Desperate, she rushed to a nearby golf course to get some help. Fortunately, two maintenance workers, Jose and Shawn, wasted no time reacting.
The men quickly grabbed some pliers and gloves and followed Gwen back to the backyard. However, when they saw the poor pup, the men instantly realized a shocking truth. The helpless puppy wasn’t a dog at all!

Believe it or not, the animal in need was a coyote pup, just a few weeks old. But the surprises didn’t stop there.
As the men were helping the coyote pup, Gwen noticed a pair of eyes staring at them from the trees behind her house.
She figured it was probably the pup’s mom, waiting to reunite with her baby. Gwen said in a video:
“She kept coming back and holding a vigil in my backyard.”
In the meantime, Jose and Shawn carefully pulled the cacti out of the coyote’s head, shoulders, and paws.

What surprised them the most was how calm the coyote pup was. He remained still the entire time, almost as if he knew they were helping him.
Once they finished removing the cacti, they checked on the pup to make sure he was okay. Fortunately, despite several cuts on the skin, the coyote pup seemed to be alright.

Before releasing him back into the wild, Jose and Shawn quickly took a few photos with the animal they saved, keeping a memory of the incredible rescue.
After that, they slowly released the pup. Once he realized he was safe, he ran across the backyard straight to his mom, who had been patiently waiting for him the whole time.

Their reunion was nothing short of heartwarming. Gwen had a hard time processing what had happened, but still, she was happy she reacted on time and got help, no matter what animal it was.
This rescue mission was truly something else. I’m beyond happy that these compassionate people gave a helping hand to an animal in need, even while risking their safety.

Such stories truly restore my faith in humanity, and what about you? What would you do if you were in Gwen’s place?
