Homeowner Spots Something Fuzzy In A Tangled Net, Then Sees A Tiny Face Staring Back

Most people think of bats as nighttime creatures that stay far out of sight. So imagine the surprise of spotting one right in your own backyard, and not up in the trees, but tangled in a pile of netting on the ground.

That’s exactly what happened one day when a homeowner walked outside and noticed something odd sticking out from a clump of netting.

At first glance, it just looked like a bit of debris. Curious and a little concerned, they stepped closer… and realized it wasn’t just some debris stuck in there.

It was a little bat, completely stuck and unable to move. His little wings were twisted up in the mess, and it was clear he’d been struggling for a while.

He must’ve gotten stuck while trying to rest or maybe while snacking. Poor guy.

His delicate wings were all twisted in the mesh, and no matter how hard he tried to wiggle free, it only made things worse.

Who knows how long he’d been struggling there, tired and scared, just waiting for someone to notice him. Luckily, someone did.

Instead of trying to pull him out themselves, which can be dangerous for both people and wild animals, the homeowner did the right thing.

They called the 24/7 rescue service of the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary for help. And soon enough, a kind rescuer named Ned showed up to save the day.

He carefully scooped up the little bat and took him straight to the sanctuary’s hospital.

The staff there moved carefully, fully aware of how delicate bats can be. Every part of him needed extra care, so they didn’t rush a single moment.

Instead, they patiently worked through the twisted netting, strand by strand, determined not to cause him any more stress or pain.

Fortunately, the net wasn’t wrapped around him too harshly, and he came out of it without any serious harm, as the team shared in a Facebook post:

“Our team were able to carefully disentangle him and then perform a full examination to identify any health concerns. Luckily, the netting wasn’t wrapped very tightly, so he escaped without serious injury.”

Once the little bat was finally free, they gave him a name: Ziggy.

Ziggy was in rough shape, no doubt about it. He was completely drained, dehydrated, and clearly exhausted from the whole ordeal.

But considering how badly things could’ve gone, he was incredibly lucky. Many animals caught in netting end up with serious injuries, sometimes even nerve damage or long-term complications.

But somehow, Ziggy had made it through with nothing too serious. He’d been through a lot, but he was still standing. And that in itself was a small miracle.

Once he was hydrated and his energy started coming back, Ziggy was handed off to a bat rehabber named Julie. He had a whole week of rest, snacks, and recovery time.

Slowly but surely, he got stronger. His wings got their rhythm back, and he started zipping around again like his old self. Julie shared in the comments:

“After a week of TLC (no myopathy) in care he gained weight and flight fitness, and deemed fit for release.”

And then came the best part: Ziggy got to go home. Julie took him out and released him right where he belonged.

As soon as she opened her hands, he soared up into the sky, free again, just like he was meant to be.
