Meet The Oklahoma Museum’s Furry Resident Who Loves To Play Hide And Seek
It’s pretty well known that cats can end up in some unusual living situations, but here’s one you might not expect. In Oklahoma City, there’s a cat whose official address just happens to be a museum.
That’s right – his name is Indiana Bones, and he calls the Museum of Osteology home.
Whether he’s darting around for a round of hide-and-seek or mingling with curious visitors, this playful cat has made the museum his own. Let’s get into his story!
A couple of years back, museum staff members Brenna, Kristin, and Ally decided their workplace could use a furry friend.
They felt a cat would bring a little extra joy and help lift everyone’s spirits. With that in mind, they brought the idea to their general manager, Josh.
To their delight, he was fully on board and encouraged them to adopt from a local shelter. That’s how Indiana Bones came into their lives.
So, they went to Moore Animal Welfare and Adoption Center in search of their first office cat.
The team originally planned to adopt a kitten who could grow up in the museum environment. But Kristin’s heart was quickly stolen by a particular cat – an older black male named Onyx.
From the moment they met, the bond was undeniable. Kristin showered him with gentle affection, and he leaned right into it, clearly just as smitten.
She stayed close to him the entire visit, and when she introduced Onyx to her coworkers, they were just as charmed.
The Moore Animal Welfare Adoption Center made the process even easier by waiving his adoption fee, ensuring he was up to date on his shots, and sending him off with food and toys.
With everything in place, it was finally time to bring Onyx to his forever home at the museum.
After he settled in, his new family decided he needed a name that matched his unusual home.
Surrounded by skeletons, they thought Indiana Bones was just right – and for a touch of fun, they even gave him the title “Sir.” Though shy at first, Indiana soon grew comfortable in his new world.
With endless corners to explore and plenty of things to keep him entertained, he blossomed into a playful, affectionate cat who quickly became a favorite among staff and visitors alike.
These days, Indiana is living his best life. During the week, he roams the museum halls, and when the weekend comes, he heads off to Kirstin’s or Brenna’s home for a change of scenery.
He’s also developed some rather quirky hobbies. For reasons only he knows, porcupine quills are his absolute favorite—almost like his very own version of catnip.

Indiana has quite the collection of unusual pastimes. He enjoys batting around bones, brushing against antlers, and has a special fondness for the massive elephant skull on display.
His favorite spot is right beneath it, where he curls up for long naps. But above all, what he loves most is a good game of hide-and-seek.
With the museum offering countless nooks and crannies, he never runs out of clever hiding places to leap from, delighting in surprising both visitors and staff.
Thanks to his Instagram profile, people from all over the country come to this museum in Oklahoma City to meet Sir Indiana Bones. He loves the attention and greets each guest with enthusiasm.
Plenty of guests stop by just to catch a glimpse of Indiana, and he’s become the museum’s most charming ambassador. Honestly, with all the attention he draws, you could say he’s earned himself a raise!
