Seeing a pet explore the world for the first time is always such a heartwarming moment. But when that pet is blind, it makes everything even more special.
Noey, a sweet white cat who lost his vision, hasn’t let that stop him from enjoying all the little wonders of life. In fact, his adventure is just getting started!
Recently, this blind kitty got to experience the magic of fall in a way most of us can’t even imagine. His mom, Heather, captured it all on camera and shared his beautiful journey on Instagram.
Noey experiences the wonders of autumn – the crisp air and falling leaves – through touch, smell, and sound, and his reactions to these new sensations have melted hearts everywhere.
His mom’s caption reflects on how far he’s come:
“This is Noey’s first year here. Last year at this time he was critically ill. It’s a little magical to imagine the world through his senses.”
The video shows Noey gently sniffing the leaves scattered along the path. He nuzzles the ground to feel the cool texture beneath his paws.
Then, a bee flits by, and despite not being able to see it, Noey’s instincts kick in – he paws at the air in playful excitement.
Noey experiences the world the only way he can: through senses, which we often take for granted.
But Noey’s story is more than just this beautiful fall day. He was born in a shelter, struggling alongside his mom and siblings.
Right from the start, life wasn’t easy for this tiny family. All of them were battling upper respiratory infections, struggling to breathe, and barely strong enough to hold on.
Sadly, not all of his siblings made it. For those little kittens, hope slipped away before they had a chance to truly live. Against all odds, Noey managed to pull through, but his fight was far from over.
He was adopted into what seemed like a loving home, but shortly after, his health took a heartbreaking turn. Six weeks after his adoption, Noey was returned to the shelter, and that’s when the real struggle began.
The poor kitten had a severe eye infection that left his eyes swollen and painful. Heather, who had been Noey’s foster carer at the time, recalled those sad moments:
“Six weeks later he was returned to the shelter because “he wasn’t working out” and his beautiful blue eyes were purple with inflammation.”
Despite all the attempts to save Noey’s vision, the damage was already too extensive. There was no choice but to remove his eyes, plunging him into a world of darkness.
Just when it seemed like he might get a break, Noey got another devastating diagnosis: FIP, a cruel disease that has taken the lives of so many cats before him.
For a kitten who had already been through so much, it seemed almost impossible that he could endure another battle. But Noey’s spirit refused to give up, and he started yet another fight for his life.
For three long months, Noey bravely endured a challenging treatment – he received a new medication that was his only hope for survival.
Each day was a battle, and there were moments when it seemed like the odds were stacked against him. But Noey’s strength and resilience shone through, and with each dose, he was closer to recovery.
Against all odds, this little fighter pulled through, as Heather shared:
“After 3 months of treatment and 3 months of observation without relapse he was considered cured!”
With the new meds and Heather’s love and dedication, Noey finally became a healthy cat. He began to thrive, despite everything he had endured.
Meanwhile, Heather realized that her bond with him had become unbreakable. No longer just his foster mom, she knew that she was meant to be his forever family.
So, Heather made it official and adopted Noey, giving him the loving home he so deeply deserved.
Noey’s resilience and the joy he now finds in the simplest of things are why so many people are captivated by him. His fall video has racked up nearly 50,000 likes, with comments constantly pouring in from people touched by his story.
