‘Kitten’ Hiding In Kansas Home During Storm Stuns Everyone With Its True Identity

Whether wild or domestic, animals often struggle during harsh weather conditions. Most of them don’t have a safe place to hide, so they frantically search for shelter.

That’s exactly what happened to one tiny “kitten” in Lenexa, Kansas, when the town was hit with a heavy storm and tornado warning.

As the strong, destructive wind swept through the city, one tiny soul desperately searched for a safe place to hide.

Thankfully, one homeowner spotted the helpless animal. Looking out their window, they saw what they thought was a tiny kitten stuck outside.

Determined to help the animal in need, the homeowner opened the door, and the kitten, without hesitation, rushed inside. Lenexa animal control officer Logan Dorr, shared in an interview:

“They opened the door, and it flew right into the house to get away from the storm and kind of curled up in their living room.”

The homeowner carefully observed the terrified kitten in their home, but the more they looked, the more unusual the kitten was…

Something about the kitten’s appearance and behavior didn’t seem right, leading them to believe it wasn’t just any kitten, but a wild one.

Once they realized the kitten’s true identity, the homeowners decided it was best to call Lenexa animal control for professional help.

Without hesitation, the help arrived at the location and officer Door soon confirmed that the kitten was actually a baby bobcat. Dorr said:

“Leave this for the professionals. As cute as they are, we don’t want the public getting themselves hurt.”

No one knew where the bobcat came from or if he had any siblings. He just appeared while searching for a safe place to hide from the storm.

Although bobcats are wild animals that belong in the wild, Dorr couldn’t just put the kitten outside in such harsh weather.

Instead, he decided to keep the kitten safe during the night and release him the next morning. He added:

“We figured that it would be best to put him in a carrier and keep him in a somewhat warm place until the weather kind of cleared up a bit.”

After devising a plan, Door took the kitten to the station, where he stayed for the night until the storm cleared.

The next morning, Dorr planned to release the kitten, but one missed call changed everything…

The homeowners who found the kitten, soon spotted the mama bobcat outside their house. She was walking around, looking for her missing baby.

After seeing her, they immediately contacted Dorr. That call changed Dorr’s plans.

He brought the kitten outside in a carrier and played bobcat noises on his phone, hoping that the mama would soon appear. He shared:

“Sure enough, the bobcat noises worked perfectly. It was within probably 10 minutes that the mo came right up behind me.”

The worried mama bobcat quickly rushed to her baby, ensuring he was ok. It was such a heartwarming reunion. Both Dorr and the homeowners were happy the feline family reunited.

Even wild animals sometimes need our help, just like this little bobcat did. And sometimes, one call can make all the difference.

So, if you come across a wild animal in need, remember to contact the professionals for help, they’ll know exactly what to do!
