California Cat Acts Like A Jungle Predator Until His Owner Discovers His Hilarious Secret Obsession

When Percy’s family built him a custom wall gym to stop him from climbing doors, they didn’t realize they were giving him the perfect spot for his new favorite game.

Before the renovations began, Percy’s climbing habits were getting a little out of hand. He would scale coat hangers and balance precariously on thin door frames.

He wanted to be up high at all times, surveying his territory. His family joked that he would just sit on top of the doors like he was some apex predator in the jungle.

Knowing he needed a proper outlet for his boundless energy, his family decided to get creative. "Let’s maybe create a jungle gym on the wall," they thought.

Building A Custom Jungle Gym

The family got to work installing a series of shelves and perches right on their living room wall. They hoped this custom setup would satisfy Percy’s wild instincts safely.

For the most part, the new elevated walkways worked perfectly. Percy immediately took to his new domain, happily exploring the heights.

Though he wasn’t always the most graceful jumper, he loved having his own space. But the wall gym soon led to an unexpected new game.

The Ambush From Above

With his new vantage point secured, Percy’s focus completely shifted. He went from climbing doors to waiting patiently on his wall shelves for the perfect moment to strike.

His favorite target became his dad, Ben. Whenever Ben walked by the wall, Percy would reach down and initiate his sneaky ambushes.

Out of nowhere, the mischievous cat would do a little swipe from above. His family started to laugh and wonder, "Did we make a horrible mistake?"

Percy wasn’t just swatting at Ben for fun; he was after a very specific prize. He wanted Ben’s hats.

As Ben walked underneath the jungle gym, Percy would reach down and snatch the beanie right off his dad’s head. It was like a big flex for the confident feline.

"Percy just holds it and holds it, and then boom," his family noted as they watched the hilarious, calculated thefts happen again and again.

At first, the hat-snatching was a cool novelty. The family thought it was a fun and adorable quirk that showed off Percy’s personality.

But soon, Percy’s ambushes became a daily hazard. "There was that middle section where you’re like, ‘Leave me alone!’" Ben joked about the constant sneak attacks.

Ben had to be on his toes every time he turned the corner. He even tried pleading with the cat, explaining he needed his beanie to keep his thinning hair covered.

Becoming Beanie Bros

Hoping to appease their little hat thief, the family came up with a creative compromise. They bought Percy a tiny beanie of his very own.

"We’re beanie bros," Ben declared, hoping the matching headwear would stop the daily thefts from the wall gym.

But Percy had other plans. He wasn’t just looking to wear a hat; he wanted to collect every single one he could get his paws on.

Whenever the family forgot to pick up the stolen hats, they would start to accumulate around the house. Percy loved his growing collection of headwear.

"He’s like a little troll that hoards hats," his family laughed, watching him guard his stolen treasures.

Despite the constant ambushes and missing beanies, they couldn’t help but find the whole routine incredibly endearing.

A Purr-fectly Inconvenient Setup

The bond between Ben and his mischievous cat has only grown stronger through their daily games. They even made special "Ben and Percy" stickers to hand out to friends.

"At the culmination of everything, it’s very heartfelt, and we just love it for him," they shared. It brings them immense joy just to see Percy enjoying himself.

The wall gym is definitely there to stay until they move. And when they do, they fully plan to put it up in just as inconvenient a spot for their favorite little apex predator.
