The tiny black kitten’s story began on a rural property where an elderly person had been kindly putting out food for passing cats.

It was a difficult environment for a small, vulnerable animal to survive in.

Eventually, the little feline was discovered hiding behind one of the outbuildings.

When rescuers found him tucked behind a shed, it was clear he was in desperate need of immediate medical attention.

Dave and Karen took the fragile kitten into their care, but the initial prognosis was heartbreaking.

Their veterinarian examined the tiny animal and didn’t think he would even survive the night.

Refusing to give up, the couple prepared themselves for an intense battle to save his life.

They stayed awake for three straight nights, providing round-the-clock care and administering lots of different medications.

After three exhausting days and nights, the kitten finally started to feel a little healthier.

However, Dave and Karen soon noticed that he had developed a very strange cough.

They brought him back to the vet, where he was officially diagnosed with lungworm.

The resilient kitten had to endure a third round of antibiotics, and it took an entire month for his tiny body to fully clear the infection.

He quickly proved that he was always up to mischief, definitely earning his playful name.

Whenever Karen gets up in the morning, Monkey is always right there waiting to greet her.

When she comes home, he waits at the front entrance before sprinting to the back hall to jump high up on his climbing post, hoping she will follow him.

Monkey’s deep bond with Dave soon became incredibly important for the family.

Dave was a kidney transplant patient, and he eventually needed to travel to Vancouver for his procedure.

During this incredibly stressful and frightening time, they knew they couldn’t leave their beloved cat behind.

They were able to take Monkey with them on the journey, keeping their little family together when it mattered most.

After the transplant, Dave’s recovery required plenty of rest and quiet time.

Whenever Dave needed to take a nap on the couch, Monkey was right there sleeping beside him.

Having Monkey along for the medical journey proved to be an absolutely essential part of the healing process.

As Dave noted, having an animal by your side during recovery is incredibly helpful, and Monkey proudly stepped up as his emotional healing cat.

Despite his bravery, Monkey can still be a bit skittish and is often afraid of loud noises outside.

To help him enjoy the outdoors safely, Dave built a special catio attached to their bedroom.

Now, Monkey knows he is perfectly safe to step outside and feel the fresh air and the "wind in his whiskers."

For Dave and Karen, their special black cat is proof of the magic of adoption, changing their entire day just by being around and making it impossible to ever feel grumpy.
