California Stray Cat Screamed For 24 Hours Indoors Until She Realized She Was Finally Safe
It took a month of patience and a lot of nightly meals to win over a frightened stray cat. Once indoors, she revealed a surprisingly funny personality.
A Nightly Visitor

It all started when a kind resident began spotting a stray cat wandering around the neighborhood.
Hoping to provide a little comfort to the hungry animal, the resident started leaving food out for her.
It didn’t take long for the cat to figure out the schedule.
Soon, it became a daily routine. At the exact same time every night, the little cat could be found sitting right outside the front door, patiently waiting for her meal.
A Month Of Patience

Despite her reliance on the food, the cat was still very wary of human contact.
The resident continued to feed her every night, slowly building a foundation of trust.
It took about a month of consistent feeding before the cat finally allowed her caretaker to reach out and touch her.
For the cat, it was the first time she had ever been pet, and it marked a massive turning point in their relationship.
The Big Move Indoors

Once the cat accepted physical affection, her caretaker knew it was time for the next step.
"That’s when I started the idea of, ‘Oh, I have to try to lure her into my house,’" the rescuer explained.
Bringing a street cat inside is rarely easy, and the transition was initially a shock for the little feline.
For the first 24 hours indoors, she screamed constantly, unsure of her new surroundings.
Realizing She Was Safe

After a full day of panic, a sudden shift happened.
The cat completely stopped crying and seemed to look around, realizing that she was warm, fed, and entirely safe.
"She just seemed to completely stop and then was like, ‘Oh, I like it here. I’m comfortable,’" her rescuer noted.
An examination revealed she had no microchip and was covered in fleas, making it clear that she had been fending for herself for quite some time.
First Lap Snuggles

With the fleas treated and the street life behind her, the cat began to truly enjoy the perks of being an indoor pet.
She started hanging out in the home office, happily joining her rescuer for breakfast.
Soon, the former street cat was bravely climbing onto her rescuer’s lap for the very first time.
She soaked up the attention, absolutely loving the warmth and affection she had missed out on for so long.
A Very Quirky Habit

As her personality blossomed, her rescuer discovered that the cat—now named Winnie—had a very strange obsession.
One day, the rescuer set down a glass of ice water for just two seconds.
Winnie immediately marched over and started drinking directly out of the human’s glass.
It wasn’t a one-time event; Winnie absolutely loved drinking fresh water out of regular glasses.
Refusing Normal Treats

Winnie’s love for water glasses was so strong that it completely overshadowed normal cat desires.
Her rescuer tried offering her different kinds of cat treats, but Winnie absolutely hated them.
"Winnie is not motivated by treats. She is motivated by glasses of water," her owner laughed.
To be safe, they took her to the vet, who ran tests and confirmed she was perfectly healthy—she just had a very funny preference.
A Perfect Addition

From a scared, flea-covered stray waiting in the dark to a confident indoor cat with a quirky personality, Winnie’s transformation was complete.
She no longer has to worry about where her next meal will come from, or if she will have a safe place to sleep.
Instead, she spends her days lounging in the office, snuggling on laps, and stealing sips of ice water.
For her rescuer, taking a chance on the screaming street cat was completely worth it, noting that Winnie has become a truly great addition to their family.
