Camera Captures Heartbreaking Scene As Owner Dumps Cat And Kittens At California Storefront
Shelters and rescue groups all over the country are stretched thin trying to save the cats people leave behind.
It feels like every day there’s a new story about another abandoned pet, and honestly… it hurts a little every time.
But the one I’m sharing today? It’s on a whole different level.

Most of the time, we hear about these cases long after the cat has already been dumped.
Someone finds them, a shelter investigates, and only then do we learn what happened.
But this time, the whole heartbreaking moment was caught on camera, clear as day, outside a small shop in San Bernardino.

The footage shows a woman pulling up in front of the store. She opens her car door, and inside is a cardboard box packed with newborn kittens.
Newborns. Tiny little babies who couldn’t even survive a night on their own.

Right after that, their mama, a sweet ginger girl, jumps out of the car looking completely lost. You can almost feel her confusion through the video.
She kept circling around, watching her owner take her kittens out and place them on the cold pavement. She had no idea what was happening… or why.
The poor mama kept trying to climb back into the car, desperate and frantic, but within seconds her owner drove off. The cat ran after the car as fast as she could, but it was useless.

That night, the babies remained outside alone. When the store owner arrived the next morning, he found five tiny tabby kittens sitting there waiting… almost six hours after being abandoned.
And their mama? Gone. She had probably chased after the car until she couldn’t anymore.
Immediately, he reached out to Jaina from Cats of San Bernardino, a rescuer who has pulled countless cats off the streets. She got there right away.
In her post, she didn’t hold back, sharing:
“People think that cats can survive on the streets alone, BUT they can’t! Feral cats have better odds, but friendly domestic cats will slowly starve, get hit by a car, harmed by humans, or taken by predators. The lack of compassion this person showed is disgusting.”

Jaina scooped up the babies and rushed them to safety. She also started calling foster volunteers, hoping someone could take over bottle-feeding duties.
But what really weighed on her was the fact that the mama cat was still missing, as Jaina also mentioned:
“We are ENRAGED because the Mama was so confused that she ran off. We have been canvassing the area, and the business owner has been checking their cameras, but she hasn’t been spotted.”
The kittens are now getting proper care from experienced fosters, but everyone hopes their mama turns up. Nothing can replace a mother’s presence, especially for newborns.

No one knows why the owner chose to dump them like this, but I think we can all agree there were a hundred better ways to handle the situation.
Raising a mama cat and her babies can be hard, yes, but abandoning them on cold concrete isn’t the answer. If you want to follow Jaina’s rescues and support her work, you can find her on Instagram.
