Have you ever experienced your cat acting weirdly right before an earthquake? Perhaps you were just relaxing in the living room, and then all of a sudden your cat jumped up,all upset, and before you knew it, an earthquake hit.
I’ve witnessed this a few times; my cats would just feel anxious all of a sudden, and some of them would even hide – this happened two or three times just moments before I would feel an earthquake.
This got me thinking… How do our cats feel when an earthquake strikes?
Take a look at this video and think about whether cats are able to sense there’s an earthquake coming or not.
There are some people who believe that cats can truly feel an earthquake is coming and that’s why they get scared and try to hide even before the earthquake hits.
However, there is no scientific evidence that supports this notion. In the video above, you can see how some cats got startled and jumped around the room moments before the earthquake, while some others stood still.
Maybe there are some cats that can feel it, and other cats that cannot?
There is no definitive answer to this question, but there are some scientists who claim that animals in general, including cats, can feel changes in the earth’s atmosphere.
In this video, scientist Naoko Yada suggests that cats do in fact feel an earthquake is coming because he tested some of them, and right before a quake happens, the cats would jump up and down and behave restlessly.
He says that because cats can’t talk about it, they need to act out because they sense danger is on its way.
However, Prof. Robert Geller contradicts these notions in the video, by saying that if cats could feel an earthquake, then it would mean they hear some sort of signal, which they could then take and analyze.
There is still so much more to do with this research, but what we do know is that earthquakes will hit and we need to help each other out! Not only people, but animals as well.
What Will Your Cat Do If It Feels An Impending Earthquake?
There is still no concrete evidence supporting the notion that a cat can feel an earthquake before it happens, but there are some situations where it seems like cats actually did predict an earthquake.
Most commonly, cats will act out, be frantic and frightened, meow like crazy, run away, hide, and mama cats will take their kittens and hide them as well. This behavior is usually considered odd, and many owners have a lot to say about it.
Some owners report that their cats yowled and meowed, some say their cats would be scared like never before or acting as though disoriented.
Just take a look at these photos of my friend’s frightened cats hiding around, which were taken moments before there was an earthquake.
And look at this guy, waiting for the laundry load.
This beauty was frightened and just looking for her owner’s embrace.
