Anyone lucky enough to call themselves a proud pet parent to both a cat and a dog will agree on one thing: life with them is never boring!
These so-called natural enemies always seem to find ways to keep their owners entertained, ensuring there’s never a dull moment in the house.
Now, I can’t speak from personal experience – I’m firmly in the cat-only club – but hearing the stories from my friends has made me realize just how complex and fascinating life with both a cat and a dog can be.
Alicia Lázaro, the proud pet mom at the heart of today’s story, would absolutely agree.
In a TikTok video she recently shared, her cat Maverick takes the spotlight, dramatically limping around the kitchen.
The twist? Just moments earlier, her dog Zowy had been limping too.
What could possibly be going on with her two furry companions? Alicia didn’t have to wait long to get to the bottom of this curious mystery…
Someone Was Definitely Jealous…
Like many cats and dogs who share the same home, Zowy and Maverick are always finding ways to compete for their mom’s attention and prove who’s the ultimate favorite.
The moment Alicia gives one of them some love, the other is quick to show up, demanding their own share of TLC.
That’s exactly what happened in this case!
One seemingly ordinary day, after returning from a walk with Zowy, Alicia noticed something unusual about her beloved pup.
Instead of her usual happy tail-wagging and zooming around the house, Zowy had started limping.
Worried, Alicia called Zowy over to check her paws. It turned out that she had stepped on a thorn while outside, which was causing her limp.
In a later interview, she recalled:
“We removed it right away. She was fine.”
But clever Maverick, ever the observer, noticed the attention Zowy was getting and decided it was his turn.
Feeling like his canine sister was getting more love than he was, Maverick started limping too.
Can you believe that? I guess he’s not a fan of feeling left out, haha!
Confused and a little shocked, Alicia stepped away from Zowy to check on Maverick’s paw, only to discover he was perfectly fine. She laughed and said:
“I looked at his paw and saw there was nothing wrong with him. He was putting on a show.”
Luckily, Alicia had filmed the whole thing and posted the video on her TikTok, where it quickly went viral, racking up over 1.5 million views. Check out the video now:

Cat lovers everywhere couldn’t get enough of Maverick’s performance. One person jokingly wrote:
“He was an actor in his past life 😂”
While another one related, sharing a similar experience:
“I had cat that would fake injuries so he could extra special care and pillow fluffs and cuddles and snacks”
Once the thorn was removed, Zowy never limped again.
But Maverick? He kept up his dramatic act anytime he wanted a little extra attention.
Guess that’s just another classic example of the difference between cats and dogs, huh? Haha!

Naturally, Alicia sees right through Maverick’s clever little scheme, but like any proud cat mom, she humors him anyway. She says:
“He thinks he’s smarter than everyone else.”
Even though they’re constantly fighting for their mom’s attention, Zowy and Maverick truly adore each other.
And of course, Alicia loves them both equally.
“I love them very much. I don’t know what I would do without them.”
