Cat From Upstate New York Faces Heartbreak After Being Abandoned Not Once But Twice

Cat From Upstate New York Faces Heartbreak After Being Abandoned Not Once But Twice

Looking after a cat is far from simple, though sadly, many people don’t realise this before bringing one home.

They adopt, and when the challenges appear, they give up. That’s why it’s so important to understand what caring for a pet really involves before making that commitment.

Only when you feel fully ready and equipped should you move forward with adoption. Cats add so much joy to our lives, but they also come with responsibilities that deserve to be taken seriously.

This particular cat had already faced disappointment more than once. Her first family surrendered her to a shelter after having children.

Her second family adored her deeply, yet eventually gave her up, too, struggling with some of the difficulties she faced.

After that, she became a barn cat across from the house her soon-to-be third (and forever) family lived in. As her current owner said in a video:

“She was so scared because at that point she was not an outdoor cat.”

This girl, who became her forever parent, named her Lucy and hung out with her all the time. So she was shocked when Lucy went missing for two or three weeks…

“I was walking home one day, and I saw out of the corner of my eye, this scraggly little gray and white cat who looked so malnourished and dirty. I said ‘Lucy’ and she turned around, meowed at me, and ran to me.”

Lucy trailed after her that day, marking the start of their journey together. In the early days, things weren’t always easy.

The girl was just 13 when she first met Lucy and took on the responsibility of caring for her.

Her family didn’t allow pets in the house, so she would do her best to make Lucy feel warm, safe, and at home… even though it was in front of the house.

The girls said:

“I think when she saw me, she felt hope, like this was her chance. She was going to have somebody who is gonna love her.”

She couldn’t imagine parting with Lucy and cared for her deeply. Yet, with her parents facing medical challenges, bringing Lucy indoors wasn’t an option.

Even so, she often felt that everything she did still fell short of what Lucy truly deserved.

Winter snow was always the hardest, but over time she began letting Lucy inside. The cat would curl up in one part of the house, content to be close to her favourite person.

Now, as she approaches her 18th birthday, she is working hard and saving with the hope of finding a place of her own, where she and Lucy can finally share a home together.

Lucy is very playful, and she is actually a very independent and bold cat. All cats in their neighborhood fear her, haha.

They often wander through the forest and around the neighbourhood together, and Lucy couldn’t be happier. She adores running freely and soaking up every moment with her favourite person.

By giving Lucy a chance, this young girl completely changed her life. Now, Lucy is healthy, content, and has grown into a truly wonderful companion.
