New Jersey Kitten Faces Harsh Destiny After A 15-Foot Fall On Concrete

Cat lovers will go to great lengths to care for their furry companions, always striving to give them a safe and nurturing home.

Few stories show this dedication better than the one of Dawn Firestone from New Jersey and her beloved cat, Rocky.

Determined to help her little friend live a full life, Dawn went above and beyond to ensure Rocky could walk again. Her husband’s construction site became the unlikely setting for this tale.

Among the noise of heavy equipment, a stray mother cat chose the area as a hiding spot for her kittens. Sadly, one of the tiny kittens suffered a terrifying fall, plunging 15 feet onto the hard concrete below.

Mama cat left her kitten there to await his final moments, however, Dawn’s husband came to the rescue. He couldn’t just leave the kitten alone, as Dawn shared in her video:

“My husband is a very emotional person, he’s like ‘If I bring him home, and he passes away, I’m literally gonna be in bed for a week’.”

Dawn refused to give up on the fragile little one and poured her heart into keeping him alive. She did everything she could, clinging to hope that the kitten would pull through. 

But when she brought him to the vet, the news she received was far from what she wanted to hear.

The diagnosis revealed that tiny Rocky had a spinal injury that left him unable to walk. Even so, there was still a chance to improve his quality of life.

The vet suggested a special type of physical therapy that involved gentle sessions in a water tank, designed to help build strength in his back legs. However, Dawn did much more than that, as she mentioned:

“He does acupuncture, he does chiropractic care, I fed him with his bottle.”

Rocky required a little extra care when it came to using the potty, and Dawn was always right there to lend a hand.

Still, it became clear that his back legs weren’t working the way they should. That’s when Dawn’s creativity kicked in, and she came up with a brilliant solution to give her kitten a new way to get around.

Dawn built him a tiny set of wheels, all in the hope it could help him strengthen his muscles. As she said:

“Within a couple weeks when he started walking around and getting stronger, I realized that he was kind of walking like a seal!”

However, Rocky’s disability didn’t stop him from being a little bundle of energy. He would manage to go up and down the stairs, while his mom cheered him on!

With each passing day, Rocky began to reveal his playful spirit. He chased after toys, batted at anything that caught his attention, and even enjoyed the company of his dog sibling.

Despite his challenges, he eagerly explored every corner of his new home, showing just how full of life he really was.Rocky became a gentle cuddle bug, as his mom shared:

“He loves to just cuddle into me, he’s never hissed, he’s never bitten, he’s never taken his claws out. The love that I get back is just beyond ridiculous.”

Today Rocky is a well-known internet star. He took Instagram by storm and his mom is sharing his day-to-day life. Dawn hopes more people will adopt special needs cats and give them a second chance at life.

The thought of special needs kittens getting euthanized brings tears to her eyes, as she said:

“I always cry when I think about it. That cats like that would be euthanized.”

The bond between Dawn and Rocky is nothing short of heartwarming, and seeing the love she pours into his life is truly moving.
