Cat Rescued From A Kitten Mill Sees The Sunlight For The First Time

Sharing is caring!

Unfortunately, across our country, some people take advantage of cats to earn money. You’ve probably heard about puppy mills – but did you know that kitten mills are also a thing?

Kitten mills provide poor conditions for cats, who are bred over and over again. These poor souls spend their lives caged up, while their kittens are taken away from them.

Katie Sims recently adopted a Maine Coon cat named Mila from such a situation. Mila spent her life in a basement kitten mill and the owner also had a serious hoarding problem.

Mila had never experienced what it felt like to be a regular house cat, and sadly it seemed like she’d given up. As Katie said in her video:

“I was almost looking at a ghost of a cat.”

Mila was four years old and she had four sets of kittens before she was rescued. She didn’t know what it felt like to be loved or cared for.

When she came to her new home she was so scared, that she didn’t want to get out of her carrier. Mila was severely malnourished with several serious health problems. Katie also shared:

“I spent hours in the bathroom with her just holding her and telling her it’s okay, It’s gonna be okay baby.”

Although she was only four years old, Mila had a serious issue with her teeth. Most of them were rotten and she wasn’t able to eat.

Katie spent days before finding proper food Mila was able to eat. From that moment on, she started finally gaining some weight, but her teeth were beyond saving.

However, with Katie’s love and dedication, Mila started to love life again. She started grooming herself, playing around, and cuddling with Katie.

Her new mom would take her on walks and Mila would enjoy every minute spent outside.

Since Katie is a foster volunteer for her local shelter, she welcomes new kittens into her home almost every month.

Mila’s motherly instincts immediately came through and she started watching over the kittens alongside Katie. As mentioned:

“She spends a lot of time in the kitten room that I have, just overseeing the kittens and looking at them, and just giving them love.”

Mila went from a sick, scared, and mistreated cat to a bundle of joy in Katie’s home. Thanks to this amazing woman, Mila got a second chance at life and she enjoys it to the fullest.
