Forgotten Cat Rescued After Spending Months Locked Inside A Closed Dry Cleaner In New York
When a call reached the Greenpoint Cats rescue about a cat stuck inside a closed dry cleaner in Brooklyn, the staff was baffled.
For months, the helpless cat lived completely alone in the abandoned shop. Surrounded by garbage and left without food or care, he somehow survived, meowing out for help and hoping someone would hear him.
It was passersby who finally noticed his cries and decided to act. They contacted Greenpoint Cats, and the rescue team rushed to the scene.
Not only did they want to get him out, but they also needed to understand how he ended up in such a heartbreaking situation.
What they uncovered was devastating. In an interview, the rescue shared:
“The owners shut down and left him behind. He spent months trapped inside the abandoned store.”
The team went on to explain that no one had stepped in for all that time. The cat was simply left to struggle, his life hanging by a thread.
But Greenpoint Cats wasn’t about to let him down, sharing:
“No one would help this cat. So, together with a team of dedicated rescuers, we got him out.”
Once safely in their care, the cat was given a new name: OMG, short for “Oh Em Gee.”
Sadly, the months of neglect had left him underweight and suffering from ringworm, a common but treatable skin condition.
Despite everything, his spirit amazed his rescuers. OMG had a fierce will to live, and with the support of a foster home, he finally got the chance to heal.
His foster mom welcomed him warmly, making sure he had food, comfort, and a safe place to rest. It wasn’t long before OMG started to bounce back.
He spent his days catching up on meals, sleeping peacefully, and showing endless gratitude for the care he received. In just a matter of weeks, his transformation was incredible. His foster shared:
“He’s safe, well-fed, and settling into a good life in a foster home. His life looks very different now.”
His thin frame filled out, his fur grew back into a soft, glossy coat, and best of all, his personality began to shine through.
OMG turned into a playful and affectionate kitty who loved attention, especially belly rubs. His foster added:
He’s as loving as he is playful, as cute as he is friendly. It’s as if he’s living each day to make up for the hard ones that are behind him.”
Today, his once-empty eyes are now filled with joy and life. From being abandoned and forgotten, OMG has grown into a happy, loving cat.
And it’s all thanks to the tireless work of rescuers who refused to let him be another lost soul. The only piece missing is a forever home of his own.
But with his sweet nature and bright personality, it’s only a matter of time before someone falls head over heels for him.
