Disabled Kitten Steals A Colorado Soldier’s Heart Moments Before Her Deployment

Disabled Kitten

Christine Bouldin had already experienced a lot during her time serving as a soldier and intelligence specialist with the U.S. Army.

She was stationed in Afghanistan, counting down the final days of her deployment, ready to return home and close that difficult chapter of her life.

What she didn’t know was that just before leaving, her heart would be captured by the most unlikely little companion.

While near the base, Christine noticed a cat and her tiny kitten wandering close by. Right away, something didn’t feel right.

The kitten seemed unsteady, her movements awkward and clumsy. Christine watched closely and realized that the poor thing struggled to stand, as she shared in an interview:

“I felt so sorry for her. She couldn’t stand up and would flip over.”

From that moment on, leaving them behind wasn’t an option.

Christine started caring for both the mother cat and the kitten, sharing her own rations from mealtime to make sure they had enough to eat.

Slowly, the fragile kitten’s condition began to improve. As Christine spent more time with her, she grew more and more attached.

She eventually gave the kitten a name: Felix. But she also learned something important. Felix wasn’t just clumsy; she had a condition called cerebellar hypoplasia.

The diagnosis sounded scary, but Christine soon found comfort in knowing that cats with cerebellar hypoplasia can still live full, happy lives. They just need a little extra support and understanding.

Christine had no doubt that Felix was a fighter, and watching her determination only deepened the bond between them.

The thought of saying goodbye to Felix at the end of her deployment became unbearable. So she started asking around to see if there was any chance she could bring the kitten, along with her mother, back to the United States.

She even reached out to the canine unit in hopes of finding a way. But the answer she kept hearing was always the same: no.

As if things weren’t already heartbreaking, the situation took a turn when the mother cat disappeared. She never returned, leaving Felix all alone.

For Christine, that was the final push. She knew she couldn’t walk away. Felix needed her now more than ever.

Desperate to find a solution, Christine remembered a kind vet who had been helping with Felix’s shots. That vet mentioned someone named Pam Constable, an American woman running an animal rescue operation in Kabul.

With fresh hope, Christine reached out right away. To her relief, Pam agreed to take Felix in.

It wasn’t the perfect solution, but it gave Christine a glimmer of peace as she boarded her flight back to Colorado, leaving Afghanistan behind with a heavy heart.

And then came the most beautiful twist of all. The following year, Pam traveled back to the United States and personally brought Felix with her.

Christine and Felix were reunited, this time in North Carolina, and from that day forward, the two have been inseparable.

Felix now lives happily in Colorado with Christine, her family, and another cat named Gus. She may wobble when she walks, but her spirit is unstoppable.

Her life is now filled with love and comfort, exactly what Christine always dreamed of giving her.
