New York Couple Heads To Wedding Venue And Walks Out With A New Family Member
Erica and Cristian thought they were just in for a normal day of wedding planning. You know, dinner with their parents, checking out a venue in Brooklyn, talking about flowers and menus, the usual engaged-couple stuff.
What they didn’t expect was that the evening would end with a tiny surprise that would completely change their little family.
After dinner, as everyone was strolling around, Cristian’s mom spotted something unusual.
Tucked behind a giant flowerpot was the tiniest calico kitten, shivering and trying her best to stay hidden.
She looked so out of place, all alone with no other cats around. The moment Erica laid eyes on her, her heart just melted. She shared in an interview:
“I freaked out — in a good way, of course.”
Erica had been dreaming about adopting another kitty for a while, but never in a million years did she imagine finding one like this.
The kitten was freezing and damp, so they scooped her up and wrapped her snug in a napkin, as Erica explained:
“[T]he venue manager came out with a dinner napkin and handed it to us to wrap her in,” Erica said. “[S]he was freezing cold and soaking wet.”
The little furball looked so fragile, but the second she was safe in Erica’s arms, it was clear she belonged there.
Cristian, who had been on the fence about adding another pet, didn’t stand a chance. One look at her and he was smitten.
By the time they got home, the kitten was exhausted, hungry, and crawling with fleas. Erica and Cristian went into full-on rescue mode.
They gave her a warm bath and set her up with everything she needed. They barely slept that night, taking turns watching her, feeding her, and making sure she was okay.
First thing the next morning, they rushed her to the vet, who assured them she was doing fine.
Naming her was easy. Since they had just eaten pasta, the kitten became Rigatoni, affectionately nicknamed Rigs. And honestly, she already feels like a little sign of good luck.
When Erica shared Rigatoni’s rescue story on TikTok, some people joked that the little kitten might have been trying to attend the wedding; she just made her entrance a little earlier.
In the days since, Rigatoni has blossomed. She’s playful, affectionate, and has fit right in with Sushi, the couple’s other cat.
It’s like she’s always been part of the family. Erica shared:
“[I]t was the best decision ever.”
What started as an ordinary wedding-planning night turned into the sweetest twist of fate, and Erica and Cristian couldn’t be happier.
Sometimes the sweetest surprises in life don’t wait for the perfect timing. They sneak in when you least expect it, maybe even cold and trembling behind a flowerpot, just hoping someone will notice.
For Erica and Cristian, that little twist of fate brought Rigatoni into their world, and it turned out to be the happiest choice they could’ve made.
