Massachusetts Shelter Shocked To Receive Over 50 Mails For Adopting These Unique Kittens

Sharing is caring!

Animal shelters provide a safe haven for many animals waiting for their happily-ever-after.

While most animals in shelters are mixed breeds, you might be surprised to learn that some are purebreds.

Yes, you read that right – people abandon purebred animals too. If they’re lucky, these animals end up at shelters, where they often catch the attention of adopters drawn to their unique bloodlines.

Therefore, choosing the animal’s future owner is of great importance.

A similar situation unfolded recently at the Scituate Animal Shelter of Massachusetts when a person came in to surrender three kittens.

The shelter staff couldn’t turn the person away, knowing the kittens could end up in a much worse situation if they didn’t take them in.

But as soon as they looked closer at the three little furbabies, they were completely smitten.

Amanda Eddy Baker, director of programs and operations at the shelter, shared in an interview:

“You could call it a ‘cartoon moment’ – when eyes bugged and little hearts formed. I’d never seen kittens like that.”

Inside the box were three curly-haired kittens of the Selkirk Rex breed. These unique kittens stood out immediately. Amanda added:

“The staff was shocked, in the most delighted way. We see so many kittens each year, but I tell you, it never gets old.”

Fortunately, the kittens were in good health and grew bigger and stronger with each passing day, gradually revealing their distinct personalities.

Soon after their arrival at the shelter, the three Selkirk kittens were ready for adoption. That’s when something truly unexpected happened.

You see, this Massachusetts shelter is relatively small, processing around 500 pet adoptions per year. They carefully promote each animal to ensure they find the best homes possible.

However, when it came time to find homes for the Selkirk kittens, no promotion was needed.

As soon as the shelter posted about the kittens looking for their forever homes, their inbox exploded. Amanda shared:

“We had roughly 50 people email, which is A LOT for us. I man the emails, and they were literally rolling in.”

However, that wasn’t the most shocking part. Staff members quickly gathered around to find the kittens their perfect match.

Then, just 13 minutes after sharing the post about the adoptable kittens, all three of them got adopted, setting a new record for the shelter.

No one in the shelter could believe what had happened, but one thing was for sure – they found them the best homes. Amanda shared:

“We are very optimistic they will be amazing cats. They were already super social when they came in, a great sign.”

Now, the three kittens are on their way to their new forever homes, ready to start a new chapter with their loving families, just as they deserve.

This heartwarming story serves as a reminder: you never know what treasures you’ll find at a shelter until you look inside.

From kittens to senior cats, and from mixed breeds to purebreds, there’s always a wide variety of animals in need of loving homes.

But remember, every cat deserves a home and to be loved. In most cases, those harder-to-adopt cats bring the most joy and love into your life.
