Idaho Rescue Staff Shaken After Finding Border Collie Mix Tied Up And Left Behind

When staff at Priest River Animal Rescue in Idaho arrived one morning, they were met with a heartbreaking sight—a border collie mix named Buddy tied to the donation shed, abandoned and left confused.
Though physically healthy, the sweet dog was terrified, unsure of why his world had suddenly changed.

The team at Priest River Animal Rescue (PRAR) in Idaho discovered the border collie mix fastened to their donation shed. They later posted the emotional picture on Facebook, where it quickly gathered hundreds of reactions and comments.
Barbara Grover, president of PRAR’s board of directors and a longtime volunteer, shared in an interview:
“Physically, he was healthy, but emotionally he was frightened and confused, which made him snarl and growl at us.”

Buddy is slowly adjusting to life at the shelter, but what he truly needs is a forever family after being surrendered by his former owners.
Grover noted that he would thrive in a busy, active household that can give him the physical exercise and mental stimulation he craves.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) describes border collies as affectionate companions with exceptionally high energy levels—something Buddy certainly shows.
“He is an active, friendly dog who loves to play fetch and is good with children,” Grover shared.
In a Facebook post, the shelter expressed their heartbreak, writing:
“THIS IS NOT OK!! We have contacted the owner and this baby has been surrendered to us. He is in isolation for a few days and will be available to pre adopt when he comes out this weekend. He will be neutered June 11 and will be able to go home on June 12th. If you are interested in pre-adopting this boy, we are accepting applications now.”

She also explained:
“When an animal is not surrendered properly, it showcases a lack of respect for the shelter staff who are dedicated to the well-being of all animals in their care. The added burden this places on the shelter staff, who are already diligently caring for numerous animals each day, is truly unfair and potentially dangerous.”
Thanks to the amazing staff and their dedicated volunteers, Buddy’s story didn’t end at the shelter gates.

After being neutered and given the care he needed, this sweet border collie mix finally got the fresh start he deserved. It didn’t take long before a loving family saw past his rough beginning and welcomed him into their home.
Today, Buddy is no longer the abandoned pup tied to a shed—he’s a cherished companion with a safe place to call home.
