Dog Found Wandering Alone In Florida Field Gets A Foster Kitten Who Refuses To Leave His Side
A self-proclaimed non-cat person from Florida agreed to foster a tiny kitten, only to witness an unbreakable bond form between the feline and her senior rescue dog.
A Lonely Beginning
Magoo’s life didn’t start with the warmth and security he knows today.
The sweet dog was discovered wandering all alone in an open field, with no family in sight.
Rescuers searched for his original owners for a few weeks, hoping someone was looking for him.
When nobody came forward to claim the lonely pup, a kind woman named Ashley decided to step in and give him a second chance.
An Unexpected Guest
Weeks after Magoo settled into his new home, a new situation arose in Ashley’s family.
Ashley’s mother, who is actively involved in cat rescue, stumbled upon two tiny kittens in need of help.
Wanting to assist her mother, Ashley agreed to take one of the kittens, named Bugsy, into her home.
It was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement.
Just A Temporary Plan
At the time, Ashley didn’t consider herself a cat person at all.
Her plan was simple: provide a safe space for Bugsy until he was old enough to be neutered.
Once he was healthy and ready, she fully intended to adopt him out to a forever family.
But she didn’t account for how the tiny kitten would react to her rescue dog.
An Instant Obsession
Almost immediately, Bugsy began to gravitate toward Magoo.
The small kitten started warming up to the gentle dog, wanting to be near him at all hours of the day.
“He keeps staring when Magoo’s asleep,” Ashley noted, watching the strange but adorable dynamic unfold.
It quickly became clear that Bugsy was absolutely obsessed with his canine foster brother.
Becoming The Shadow
Seeing the incredible bond forming between the two animals, Ashley’s plans completely changed.
She couldn’t bear to separate the kitten from the dog he loved so much, so she ended up keeping him permanently.
Today, Bugsy is always nearby. “I always say he’s Magoo’s shadow,” Ashley shared.
Anywhere Magoo decides to lay down, Bugsy will quickly curl up close by.
Showing His Affection
Bugsy has developed his own special ways of showing Magoo just how much he cares.
The affectionate cat will carefully clean the dog, licking his fur and even his toes.
He also has a more aggressive way of showing his love: the running headbutt.
Bugsy will sprint from all the way across the room just to headbutt Magoo super hard as a sign of affection.
The Patient Older Brother
Now 10 years old, Magoo is a senior dog who enjoys his rest.
He is mostly too lazy at this point to care much about his 8-year-old feline brother’s energetic antics.
When Bugsy runs up to play with his tail, Magoo simply tolerates it with the patience of a saint.
Occasionally, Magoo will jump up to make Bugsy run away, but he never actually gets angry with the cat.
A Bond That Can’t Be Broken
The depth of Bugsy’s attachment is most obvious when they are forced to be apart.
Whenever Ashley and her partner take Magoo out for a walk, they return to hear Bugsy “scream meowing” at the door.
“He hates being by himself,” Ashley explained.
For Bugsy, the world is only right when he has the comfort and presence of the rescue dog who changed his life forever.
