Injured Kitten Crawls From Bushes In Ohio Park And Clings To Stranger’s Leg For Help
Across America, countless stray cats face a daily battle to survive. Hunger, illness, and danger are constant threats, and for tiny kittens, life on the streets can be almost impossible.
One such little fighter, barely two months old, had already learned how cruel the world could be.
One day, a man went for a walk in his local park. But peace quickly turned to alarm when he heard faint, pitiful cries coming from the bushes.
Peering closer, he spotted a tiny kitten dragging himself forward, his back legs barely moving. Dirt caked his fur, flies swarmed around him, and his little body trembled as he cried out for someone to help.
The man guessed the kitten couldn’t be more than eight weeks old. Overcome with compassion, he called his wife to bring food and contacted a friend for a carrier.
The starving kitten clung to the man’s pant leg as if begging not to be left behind. After a few mouthfuls of food, he climbed into the carrier on his own, sensing these strangers were there to save him.
At the veterinary clinic, the kitten’s calmness amazed everyone. X-rays revealed the heartbreaking truth, multiple fractures ran through his fragile body. His hind legs were shattered beyond repair, and smaller breaks dotted other bones.
Before any treatment could begin, he needed to be cleaned.
It took five staff members and more than ten buckets of water to wash away the filth, parasites, and maggots covering his body. It was as though he had never once known what it felt like to be clean.
Once the dirt was gone, the vet carefully treated his injuries and released him back into the care of the man who had promised not to give up on him.
At home, the man fed the kitten and tried to make him comfortable, but the little one continued to cry. Noticing his swollen belly, the man gently massaged it, and was stunned when the kitten passed undigested leaves.
The poor baby had been so hungry that he resorted to eating leaves just to fill his stomach.
Alarmed, the man rushed him back to the vet. The kitten was given medication, but the prognosis was grim. The vet wasn’t sure he would make it through.
Still, the man refused to lose hope. He named the kitten Meatball, a lighthearted nod to the good meals he dreamed of the kitten enjoying in the future.
