New Jersey Kitten Dumped In Trash Gets A Second Chance At Life

This is a story of resilience, hope, and the power of compassion, the remarkable journey of a kitten named Dash.

Dash’s life began in the most heartbreaking of circumstances. He and his brothers were found cruelly discarded in a rubbish bin, left to fend for themselves before they even had a chance at life.

When rescuers arrived, only one tiny survivor remained, Dash.

At the rescue centre, he quickly bonded with another kitten named Luna. The two became inseparable, often found curled up together or chasing each other through the playroom.

So when a kind woman named Lindsay came to adopt, she couldn’t bring herself to separate them. As she admits in the video:

“I was a little nervous to get two kittens.”

But the moment she saw how close they were, she knew she couldn’t take one without the other.

Bringing them home turned out to be one of the best decisions she’s ever made. They keep each other entertained and they’ve always got each other.

For months, Dash thrived in his new home. He played, cuddled, and adjusted beautifully to life indoors. But around eight months old, Lindsay began to notice something wasn’t right.

“He would just randomly kind of tilt to the side and cough a little bit, just a few times.”

Still, her instincts told her to get him checked. The vet performed X-rays, and the results were a shock.

“I wanted to show the vet and did an x-ray, and that’s when he said, oh yeah, he’s got asthma.”

Lindsay was stunned. She’d never even realised cats could get asthma, let alone one so young.

“I just never wanted to leave because I never knew if he was going to stop breathing.”

The early days were tough. Learning how to manage his condition, figuring out the right medications, and getting Dash comfortable with an inhaler took time and patience. But Lindsay was determined to give him the best possible care.

“He needs to take the inhaler twice a day. Every 12 hours.”

He has to inhale 10 times, and it’s honestly amazing how well he does with it now. At first, Dash resisted. He didn’t like the strange device or the sound it made.

But over time, trust grew. Now, he sits calmly during his treatments, though, true to feline form, he insists on doing it in his favourite spot.

Her patience paid off. With consistent medication and love, Dash’s asthma is under control, and he’s living a happy, playful life alongside Luna.

Lindsay describes Dash as “a total character.” His nickname at home? “Dashole.”

“He’s funny. He’s a weirdo. His nickname is Dashole because he can be a little rude to his sister.”

In the mornings, Dash dashes, true to his name, straight to the kitchen for breakfast, his energy high after a quiet night. “He just acts different at night,” Lindsay laughed. “But in the morning, it’s like, let’s go!”

While he loves attention, it has to be on his terms.

“Dash wants to be pet and loved on his terms. If I try to go up to him like ‘oh, I love you’, I will get pushed away.”

Considering all he’s been through, from being thrown away to fighting for his health, it’s no wonder Dash values his independence. But behind that tough exterior is a brave, grateful cat who knows he’s loved.

Dash’s story is a reminder that even the smallest creatures can show incredible strength, and that love, patience, and second chances can heal the deepest wounds.
