Kitten Stuck 40 Feet High Up In A Tree In Long Island Decides To Make A Leap Of Faith

Cats are remarkable creatures, often drawn to high spots where they can observe their surroundings in peace, free from potential threats.

This natural instinct leads many felines to climb trees, whether for relaxation or to escape from perceived danger.

However, even up high, they aren’t completely out of harm’s way.

Occasionally, a misjudged jump or slippery branch leaves them stranded, unable to climb down on their own. That’s exactly the situation this tiny kitten found herself in.

One afternoon, a resident of Long Island was enjoying a walk when his calm stroll was interrupted by frantic meows from above.

Drawn to the sound, he looked up and was shocked to see a tiny stray kitten trapped nearly 40 feet up in a tree.

Concerned for the little one’s safety, he quickly contacted local animal rescuer John Debacker for help

Thankfully, John wasted no time in reacting. He quickly arrived at the location and embarked on a rescue mission. He said in an interview:

“I knew immediately from his meows that he needed help.”

With his years of experience, John carefully climbed a ladder toward the frightened kitten, carrying a can of cat food to tempt him down.

Once he reached a closer position, he set the food in the fork of the tree and gently called out, hoping the little stray would feel safe enough to approach.

The ladder couldn’t reach all the way to the kitten, leaving John still a few feet below. Determined not to give up, he extended his arm, coaxing the tiny feline to come closer.

Then, in a surprising turn of events, the kitten took a bold leap of faith, leaving everyone watching in complete awe.

Seeing this, John quickly reached out and, fortunately, caught the kitten in mid-air. He later said:

“I did not expect him to jump like that.”

After finally catching the tiny kitten, John carefully climbed down and felt a sense of relief that the mission was completed successfully. 

He shared a video of the whole rescue mission on Facebook, saying:

“Screaming from about 40 feet high in a Hempstead tree for hours, this baby is safe!”

Following the dramatic rescue mission, the kitten was taken to Last Hope Animal Rescue in New York, where he received a thorough examination.

Remarkably, the kitten was unharmed, though he stayed at the shelter, patiently waiting to see what life had in store.

How he ended up so high in that tree remains a mystery, but one thing is certain – he now has a safe space to enjoy tasty meals and playful moments with the staff.

The shelter team named him Oakley and quickly fell in love with his gentle, sweet nature.

They hope that Oakley will soon find a forever home where he can continue to flourish, far from any more tree-top adventures.
