Man Drops Everything To Save A Tiny Ball Of Fur Abandoned Outside Lowe’s In Indiana
Sometimes love shows up in the most ordinary places. For Ryan Finchum, it happened right in the middle of his workday at Lowe’s in Indiana.
He was out in the garden section, probably just thinking about finishing up his shift, when he caught a sound that didn’t belong: a soft little meow.
That’s when he spotted a pair of curious eyes peeking out from behind the fence, watching him closely like she’d been waiting for him all along.
From that moment, Ryan had company. Wherever he walked, the cat trailed behind him, determined not to let him out of her sight.
She even plopped herself right in the aisle and called out with tiny meows until he noticed her.
She wasn’t shy or scared; she was just looking for someone to finally care.
Ryan couldn’t help but wonder if she was someone’s missing pet. But the longer he looked, the more it became clear that no one was coming back for her.
And then he noticed something that made his heart sink: an old, broken animal crate dumped in the grass by the road, as his fiancée, Makena Waldrip, shared in an interview:
“There was an abandoned, rusty animal crate over in the grass close to the road. It had a hole in it and looked like it had been there for some time.”
That’s when the truth hit. Someone had left her behind.
Ryan knew he couldn’t just walk away, so he called Makena. She was out with friends at the time, but the second she heard about the cat, she rushed over, sharing:
“[H]e told me, ‘I have a feeling about this cat. There’s something about her. I just feel like she’s supposed to be ours.’”
When Makena arrived with a carrier, the cat didn’t hesitate for even a second. She walked right in as if she’d been waiting her whole life for that moment.
On the ride home, she chirped and chatted like she already knew she was safe.
They named her Tilly, and from the start, she made it clear that she was exactly where she belonged.
That first night, Makena sat on the floor with her for hours while Tilly purred, rubbed her face against her hand, and curled up on her lap.
It was impossible not to fall in love. Makena shared:
“She is genuinely such a sweetheart, and I still can’t understand why anyone would dump her like that.”
In just a few days, Tilly blended right in with the family. She claimed her favorite spot on the couch and made it her mission to stay as cozy as possible.
Now Tilly spends her days lounging, snuggling, and soaking up all the love she missed out on before.
For Ryan and Makena, adopting her feels like the best decision they’ve ever made. They went from an ordinary day at work to finding their perfect little couch queen.
