That day, while he was resting at home, the man’s friends reached out, saying they had found a very small, dirty kitten all alone.
The man rushed to the location and saw that his friends were still there, but they couldn’t get closer to the poor kitten because they had brought their dogs with them.
They were afraid the dogs might harm her, so they waited for our protagonist to arrive.
Uncertain about the kitten’s condition, they hesitated to pick her up. As the man approached the scene, he immediately noticed the tiny little kitten, smaller than a slice of bread.
She was covered in maggots and flies, and it appeared she couldn’t open her eyes; one was completely crusted shut.
She was meowing softly and hardly moving, her cries were so faint and weak that the man could barely hear them.
The group had no idea how she ended up in this isolated area, far from any house. They wondered if she had been playing with her mother and had wandered off, getting lost in the process.
Seeing her in such a terrible state was unbearable. She was exhausted and so out of energy that she couldn’t even shake off the flies.
Her skin was damaged, her fur matted, and she looked like a kitten born not long ago, which made the whole situation even more heartbreaking.
She was so young and small, yet she had already suffered so much. The man took a face mask from his car and wrapped it around the kitten.
He gently picked her up, and she didn’t even meow. She was clearly scared, but she likely sensed that the man was just trying to help, so she held onto the mask tightly with her paws.
After bringing the kitten home, he prepared some milk powder and she devoured the entire bottle. She must have been starving for some time…
The man worried that her eyes might hurt, as she hadn’t opened them at all. She was malnourished and extremely dirty, and his heart was breaking. With every gulp she took, his heart broke a little more…
He then decided he would do anything necessary to help this poor little soul so she could grow up big and healthy.
Once the kitten was full, the man cleaned her eyes, and she managed to open one.
However, he had no idea how badly injured the other eye was. When he opened it, he found it was full of crawling insects. He wondered whether she felt anything at all since she hadn’t scratched it or shown any signs of pain.
He assumed the kitten couldn’t see at all. When he took her to the vet, it became clear that something was wrong. When they touched her eyeball, she didn’t react at all. They cleaned her eye with a cotton swab, and she showed no response.
But once they touched her upper eyelid, she started meowing, and the man felt hopeful that they could actually save her eye.
The very next day, her eyes seemed much better, and she was quite active.
Over the next few days, the man took care of her, bottle-feeding her and regularly cleaning her eyes.
However, her eye soon closed again. He decided to take her to the hospital the following morning, but when morning came, her eye was severely infected.
She kept meowing and pawing at it, and the man couldn’t help but feel guilty for not taking her to the animal hospital right away the day before.
As soon as they arrived at the vet, he helped drain the pus from her eye, and she finally calmed down, looking a lot better.
Even though she couldn’t close her eye, she immediately fell asleep now that it wasn’t bothering her anymore. The man hoped for her healing and did everything in his power to help the poor kitten, believing she was finally on the road to recovery.
Even though her eye had atrophied and the damage was permanent, the veterinary team and her rescuer did their best to ease her pain and achieve the best possible outcome.
The vet informed the man that if they left her eye as it was, it might infect and damage the other one, so he arranged for surgery to have it removed completely.
The surgery was a success and now she’s 100% healthy, and as her rescuer says “She looks like a cool cat” now that her right eye is all patched up.
Now, her rescuer-turned-parent is committed to providing her with a healthy and happy life. All the pain and treatments she endured were worth it for her to have a better future.
