Former Cat Skeptic From New York Becomes A Devoted Foster Dad To 75 Kittens

dad becomes cat lover

We’ve all heard the saying “Never say never.” It’s that friendly reminder that sometimes, life has a funny way of proving us wrong.

Take my story, for example, when I got my first cat, my mom swore she wasn’t a “cat person.” Fast-forward a few months, and she and that cat were inseparable. So really, it’s no wonder I ended up adopting more. Who could resist?

A similar thing happened to Christina, co-founder of Meow Parlor Cat Cafe in New York, and her dad, who once swore he’d never be a cat person. The twist? He’s now fostered 75 kittens. Here’s how it happened.

Christina has always been a devoted cat lover and long-time foster parent. Her dad, however, was firmly in the “no cats” camp. But that changed when life led Christina back home, kittens and all.

As she settled in with her furry crew, something unexpected began to happen. Christina started noticing that her dad, who once barely noticed the cats, was suddenly paying them a lot of attention. She recalled:

“I started to notice he was really paying attention to them. And they were paying attention to him.”

The more kittens he met, the more attached he became. Christina explained:

“I think it was very fascinating for him to see these cats and get to know them. I think they just really love his energy.”

What began as casual curiosity quickly turned into a daily ritual. Every morning, the kittens would gather around him, soaking up his gentle presence, and he loved every second of it.

Before long, Christina’s dad even had a favorite, a sweet cat named Scotty. He proudly admitted:

“She is acting like almost my family.”

Christina affectionately declared him the “Biggest Cat Lover of 2020.” That year was especially tough for her, she had to temporarily close her cat café, but what happened next brought her family even closer together.

With the café shut down, Christina began making cat toys and beds at home to stay connected to her mission. Her parents, both with over 40 years in the clothing business, jumped in to help.

“It was so incredibly sweet to see them spending time together.”

What started as a small project soon became a full-on family operation, and before they knew it, they had fostered 75 cats and kittens together.

Christina still smiles when she talks about her dad’s reaction each time a new kitten arrived:

“His face every single time was exactly the same. He was just so excited to see them. He’s a sweet guy and a tender person, but he doesn’t want you to know that. And it was so fun for me to see the excitement.”

Christina’s story proves that there’s a hidden cat lover in everyone, even in those who swear otherwise. Sometimes it just takes the right whiskered little face to bring it out.

Because once a cat captures your heart, there’s no going back. You’re officially a cat person for life.

So if this story made you smile, share it with a friend, especially one who says they “don’t like cats.” You never know whose heart might be next to melt.
