Matted Sheep Gets Her First Grooming After Years Of Roaming A Remote Hill

One day, Pam received a call about a sheep seen on a distant hill. 

The poor animal was burdened by an overwhelming amount of wool, making it hard for her to move at all. Without immediate help, she wouldn’t survive the harsh winter.

Pam couldn’t let this go unnoticed. She gathered a group of volunteers, and together, they made their way up the mountain.

The trek was grueling. The ground was uneven and harsh, with every step proving difficult. But the image of the vulnerable sheep kept them going.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they spotted her. She was standing there, almost hidden under the thick blanket of fleece.

She had spent five long years alone, managing to survive against all odds.

But now, she was drained. She couldn’t even stand, let alone walk on her own. They had no choice but to carry her.

A stretcher seemed like the only option, but with her nearly 200-pound weight from the thick coat of wool, it was going to be a difficult task.

The team worked together, taking turns to carefully navigate their way, step by step, while others cleared the path by moving branches out of the way.

This rescue was a true testament to their determination, strength, and above all, teamwork. As Pam shared in an interview:

“It was just such an emotional moment because our team did what they do best and ting together.”

By the time they had safely brought her down, everyone was drained. But there was a sense of relief knowing she was no longer stranded on that mountain and would now receive the care she so badly needed.

However, the sheep’s journey wasn’t over. When the team looked into her eyes, they saw more than just fear, as Pam explained:

“We see in her eyes there’s a being who desperately wants to live, who desperately wants to protect her body, who also has the capacity to learn to trust.”

She was determined and not ready to give up. Despite the heavy wool weighing her down, she even tried to run.

It was a mix of heartbreaking and inspiring to witness. This brave sheep had survived purely on her willpower, and now, she was ready for a fresh start.

The team reached out to Greg, a compassionate shearer experienced in handling situations like this.

Greg took his time, carefully working through the thick fleece, ensuring that each movement was gentle and safe. 

Given everything Victoria had endured, they were committed to ensuring nothing would harm her now.

As the wool came off slowly, a completely different sheep began to emerge. With each layer removed, her true self was revealed.

In the end, she had lost an astonishing fifty-five pounds of fleece, an amount hard to believe could come from just one sheep.

The most significant transformation wasn’t just physical. Without the burden of all that heavy wool, the sheep, now called Victoria, was finally able to be herself.

Watching her move freely around her new home, lighter and at ease, Pam knew this was the reason they did what they did.
