Brooklyn Cat Defies The Odds After Car Accident, Surpassing Vet’s Expectations

Most cats that find themselves in accidents with cars sadly don’t survive the ordeal. But one remarkable tabby from Brooklyn, New York, defied the odds and emerged as a true survivor.

This cat, named Jules by his rescuers, was found in the Flatbush area, showing up at a local cat colony where trap-neuter-return (TNR) efforts were taking place.
Immediately, rescuers knew something was seriously wrong. Jules was severely injured and in desperate need of help. The team didn’t hesitate, choosing to step in and help despite the severity of his condition.
Jules was badly hurt after being struck by a car. He had deep abrasions on the right side of his face, an injured eye, and signs of internal injuries.

He was starving, dehydrated, and in pain—but remarkably, his spirit remained strong. Despite all his trauma, Jules kept purring, continuously showing affection to his rescuers as though he knew they were there to help. His resilience was truly inspiring.

Cats often become frightened and defensive after enduring trauma, but not Jules. He stayed calm and even tried to interact with his rescuers by rubbing against them and purring softly. They shared their amazement on social media, writing:
“Cats with FeLV can live normal, happy, and healthy lives; they just have a shorter average life expectancy than FeLV-negative cats. Jules had more blood drawn for an advanced RealPCR FeLV test, which will tell us what stage his FeLV is at. On the plus side: he doesn’t know about any of this, never will, and is happily relaxing and purring loudly.”
Despite being FeLV positive, which can shorten a cat’s life expectancy, Jules didn’t seem bothered by it. All he cared about was getting better and receiving love from his rescuers.
Later it was confirmed that the poor soul was hit by a car and dragged around.
The rescue team made sure he got the care he needed, providing medication for his pain and ointments for his eye.

They also continued to monitor his condition closely. The veterinary team and rescuers gave him the best chance possible, knowing how important it was to help this sweet soul.
His affectionate nature never wavered. Soon after settling in, he started asking for head scratches and rubbing against his rescuers.
His appetite, too, was a positive sign of his improving condition. Jules eagerly accepted food, devouring meat tube treats and everything offered to him. His rescuers noted:
“Jules was also dehydrated and underweight. He’s catching up on lots of missed meals now, and won’t let a facial injury slow down his enjoyment of meat tube treats! Jules will never have to worry about food again, but it will take some time before he understands that—food insecurity is a common challenge for former street cats.”

As time passed, Jules made remarkable progress. His wounds slowly healed, and he grew stronger and friendlier. His appetite remained strong, which was a clear sign that he was on the road to recovery. His rescuer’s excitement about his recovery was evident:
“We love a high appetite king! That’s one of the best signals we have that cats like Jules are feeling a little better. Low appetites could be a signal that a cat is stressed or dealing with an underlying medical issue (or maybe they prefer a different flavor).”
Once Jules was ready for adoption, the only challenge was capturing his personality in photos. He was so excited to be around people that it was nearly impossible to take a still shot. The reason for his restlessness was adorable:
“Jules is hard to photograph because when you get close, he stands up—hoping for attention and skritches. As the tissue on the right side of his face heals, and fur grows back in, the muscles above his lip have tightened up slightly into a charming snarl. His unconditional love and optimism is contagious—soon Jules will be someone else’s reason to smile.”
Jules had defied all odds. From a street cat suffering from a terrible car accident to a sweet, friendly companion ready to be adopted, his journey was nothing short of incredible.
Finally, a loving family came across Jules during the summer and fell in love with him immediately.
They knew he was meant to be a part of their family. With the support of his rescuers and the love of his new family, Jules was given a second chance at life—a life filled with love, comfort, and the warmth of a forever home.
