New York Woman Brings Home A Sweet Poodle In Need, Then Wakes Up To A Shocking Surprise

Fostering an animal is about giving them the love and space they need to heal and grow. It’s an opportunity to provide kindness, support, and a new beginning when they need it most.
This is the story of Kaitlin Devoto and the little poodle who unexpectedly entered her life.

When Kaitlin decided to foster the dog, she had no idea what to expect. All she knew was that the poodle had been through a lot and needed someone to give her a chance.
As Kaitlin explained in an interview:
“I didn’t know the gender or age. The first time we knew what she looked like was when she arrived in Cincinnati when I picked her up.”
What Kaitlin didn’t realize was that this journey would hold an unexpected surprise – something she never could have predicted.

When Kaitlin first saw the dog, she noticed something unexpected – she seemed to be producing milk.
While Kaitlin wasn’t certain why, she suspected the dog had recently had puppies. As she explained:
“It’s not unusual to receive a puppy mill Momma who’s still lactating. When their puppies are weaned, moms are ‘no longer useful.’”

The poodle, however, wasn’t in the greatest condition. She was exhausted, hungry, and clearly had endured a lot, but Kaitlin wasn’t going to let that prevent her from providing the care this dog needed.
After bringing her home, Kaitlin wasn’t sure what to expect next.
Then, just a few days later, in the middle of the night, Kaitlin woke to an unexpected surprise. She hurried to check on the dog and found a tiny, newborn puppy curled up beside her.

It turned out the dog had given birth overnight, and Kaitlin had completely missed it.
She quickly checked to see if there were any more puppies on the way, but there was only one, as she explained:
“It was a singleton baby!”

The adorable little puppy was so tiny and round, resembling a little chicken nugget. Kaitlin couldn’t help herself and instantly named him Chicky Nug.
She also needed a playful name for his mom, so she decided on Mickey D, which felt just right.
The two of them were a heartwarming sight, and despite all they had been through, they were finally receiving the love and care they truly deserved.

As the days passed, Chicky Nug started to get stronger. Full of energy, he loved to play, nibbling on toys and even toes, as Kaitlin noted:
“He loves to run around and do zoomies. And he’s very interested in biting toes and toys.”
At the same time, Mickey D was settling in more comfortably. She began to relax, enjoying her toys and the extra cuddles she received.

Kaitlin is still caring for the two of them, and they’re living their best lives, knowing they’re headed toward an even brighter future.
With the support of Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue in New York, they’re set to find their forever homes soon.
Although their exact future is uncertain, Kaitlin is confident that these two will be welcomed by a family who will love them just as much as she does.

As I mentioned before, fostering goes beyond providing a safe space – it’s about embracing the opportunity to let love flourish, not only for the animal but also for yourself.
It’s a truly fulfilling experience that demonstrates the impact of kindness and the value of giving second chances.
