In the tough life of strays, pregnant cats face numerous struggles on the streets. Amidst these challenges, the story about a feline named Missy shines with hope!
Missy was wandering through the snowy roads, searching for warmth and safety. The freezing winds and frosted ground threatened her and the life she carried within.
When news about Missy got to Melissa, a compassionate soul behind the Tiny but Mighty Kitten Rescue, she knew she had to save the unfortunate mom-to-be. She teamed up with her fellow rescuer Jackie to bring Missy to safety. Melisa recalled:
“I saw one picture of her outside with her huge belly and I immediately said ‘yes.’ I knew I could provide a safe and warm space for the cat and her unborn babies.”
When the poor feline arrived at Melissa’s sanctuary, she was still frightened and wary of the unfamiliar surroundings. As Melissa shared:
“She was naturally terrified when she first arrived in my care. Everything was new and she had no idea what was happening.”
During the first few days, Melissa kept watch over Missy, sitting quietly by her side and whispering soothing words. Through gentle gestures, treats, and patience, she was slowly breaking down Missy’s walls of fear.
No longer burdened by the harsh reality of the outside world, Missy began to embrace the warmth of her new home. She started to explore the kitten room and play around with growing confidence.
Slowly but surely, Missy opened her heart and formed a lovely bond with her devoted caregiver. Melissa shared:
“I took things extremely slow and respected her boundaries by watching her body language. By day four I was able to gently pet her head which was a massive step for her.”
Then, one miraculous afternoon, Melissa entered the kitten room and witnessed a scene that filled her heart with joy. In the soft blanket, Missy lay with two tiny souls nestled by her side.
As the hours passed, three more kittens joined the family. They nursed from their mommy’s warm embrace. Melissa recalled:
“I was extremely relieved that she and her newborns were in a safe and warm space. We rescued her with barely any time to spare.”
Just look at this little milk-drunk copy of her momma!
Missy’s maternal instinct kicked in full force. She kept a close eye on Melissa’s hand when she petted them. As days passed, the protective mama grew more relaxed and even started to seek her caregiver’s attention. As Melissa said:
“She has made such incredible progress in a short amount of time! She now comes right up to me for full-body pets… She enjoys being brushed and has also started playing with toys when she’s taking a break from nursing her babies.”
By the time Missy’s kittens reached three weeks old, they fully opened their eyes and began to explore the wonders of their world. Their devoted mommy kept a watchful eye, always ready to meet all their needs. Melissa shared:
“Missy is literally the best mom. Always making sure the babies each have a good spot at the milk bar. She falls asleep as they nurse and purrs the entire time!”
Missy recovered from labor and got spayed, securing her well-being and a bright future. As her tiny furballs grew into energetic kittens, Melissa arranged for their neutering. With all of them well-adjusted, she set out to find their forever home.
Not long after, Melissa shared the news that Missy and all of the babies had loving families waiting to welcome them. She announced that Missy would be joining a family that already owns a cat named Luna, adding:
“The two of them will eventually get to meet after Missy adjusts to a new space and settles in. I do suspect the change will be another setback for her but I know she will be okay… She’s already come so far and she really does deserve the best.”
Will Missy open her heart once again? Well, I am sure she’ll embrace the love and companionship of her new family, just as she did with Melissa!
