Texas Renter Hears Sounds Under Floorboards, Then Finds Someone Trapped Inside Underground Well

A quiet day in Longview, Texas, turned into something nobody could have expected when a renter started hearing strange noises coming from beneath his home.

At first, he probably thought it was outside somewhere nearby. But the sound kept coming back.

Soft barking. Faint and desperate. And somehow, it sounded way too close.

The man listened carefully and slowly realized something unsettling. The barking wasn’t coming from the street or the backyard. It was coming from underneath his floorboards.

He immediately called for help, and animal control officer Bobby Jumper arrived at the house. What he found shocked everyone involved.

Hidden beneath the home was an old 12-foot-deep well, something the renter didn’t even know existed. And trapped at the bottom of it was a dog.

The poor thing was alone, cold, and hungry, barking up into the darkness, hoping somebody would finally hear him. The situation felt almost unreal.

Jumper shared in an interview:

“I was very shocked. I’ve been doing this for over seven years, and that’s the first time I’ve run into something like this.”

When Jumper finally looked down into the eerie rock-lined pit, the frightened dog spotted him looking back. And instead of panicking, the pup instantly started wagging his tail.

After days stuck underground, he finally knew someone had come for him. Jumper said:

“He was about as happy as could be to see me.”

Jumper quickly called for backup, and soon members of the Longview Fire Department arrived to help with the rescue.

The space was tight, awkward, and dangerous. Getting the dog out safely was not going to be easy.

The rescuers worked together for hours, trying different ideas and equipment while carefully figuring out how to lift the dog from the deep well. They even created makeshift slings to reach him, as Jumper shared:

“It took multiple people and a lot of different tools and equipment.”

For nearly three hours, the team refused to give up. At one point, things became so difficult that rescuers even considered tearing up floorboards just to reach the trapped pup. Thankfully, they eventually found another way.

Then came the moment everyone had been hoping for. The dog was finally lifted out of the well!

Everyone was so happy and relieved, as Jumper said:

“It was an amazing feeling to get the dog out.”

After finally touching solid ground again, the dog was immediately given food and water. He devoured everything put in front of him, licking the bowls clean in seconds.

Everyone also got a funny little surprise once the dog was safely out in the open. Looking down into the well had made him seem much larger, but when firefighters finally stood beside him, they realized he was actually a short, chunky Basset hound mix weighing about 53 pounds.

Even after everything he had been through, the dog remained incredibly friendly. He was later taken to a local vet, who found that he had an inflamed ear and a few cuts, but otherwise he was in remarkably good shape. The vet estimated he was around 2 years old.

Meanwhile, the well beneath the house was sealed off so another animal would never accidentally fall inside again.

Rescuers searched for the dog’s owner by going door-to-door around the neighborhood, but nobody recognized him. He had no microchip and no ID tags either.

Since nobody came forward to claim him, the rescue team decided the pup deserved a fresh start and placed him up for adoption.

And of course, they had to give him the perfect name – Timmy, inspired by the little boy from the old Lassie TV show who was always falling down wells. This time, though, it was the dog who needed saving.

After the shelter shared Timmy’s story on Facebook, someone saw the post and immediately wanted to give the lovable pup a home. Just a few days after his rescue, Timmy was officially adopted.

After everything he had survived, the sweet dog finally got the safe and loving life he had been waiting for.
