Indianapolis Rescue Kitten Walks Into A House Full Of Dogs And Instantly Becomes One Of Them

Sometimes, the tiniest animals can make the biggest difference, and that’s exactly what happened with Pesto, the orange and white kitten who needed a foster home. 

When Kelsey, a seasoned foster caregiver, received the call about him, she was unsure and couldn’t take him in right away. 

But as any animal lover understands, the thought of a small, helpless kitten needing help is hard to ignore. As Kelsey shared in an interview:

“I felt guilty not knowing what might happen to him.” 

Luckily, her schedule opened up soon after, and she decided to help. She added:

“We were able to get him [that day], and he is just too cute.”

And he really was cute! Kelsey brought home the adorable little furball named Pesto, and it was love at first sight. 

At just a few weeks old, Pesto settled into a cozy pen filled with a soft bed, blankets, and toys. It was a huge change from whatever he had gone through before, and he was thrilled to have a safe place to stay and a caring foster mom to meet all his needs. 

Although he received a big plush toy for company, he still longed for attention and didn’t want to be alone. He craved the warmth of living beings.

That’s when Penny, one of Kelsey’s dogs, came into the picture. Hearing Pesto’s tiny meows, she came over to check on him, showering him with slobbery kisses, which is a dog’s way of showing comfort. 

Penny, who had helped many kittens before, seemed to know exactly what Pesto needed right from the start. 

With her soothing presence, Pesto quickly relaxed and leaned into her, soaking up all the love she had to give. It was as if he had found a mom, a warm, furry friend to snuggle with.

Pesto was filled with excitement as he realized he was a big boy now, ready to explore the spacious room. He started by waddling over to the door, like a little adventurer embarking on a big journey. 

Next, he ventured to the corner of the room, carefully checking each doorstopper to make sure everything was safe and that no screws were loose while he was on duty. 

You could easily imagine this small kitten with a serious look, taking his self-appointed job as a security guard very seriously.

However, during the first few days, Pesto posed quite a challenge for his foster mom at mealtime. She mentioned:

“He doesn’t really want a bottle, but also hasn’t figured out how to eat gruel. It’s a bit of a battle.” 

Fortunately, they quickly discovered what was troubling Pesto and preventing him from eating well, and they promptly got him the care he required. 

The following morning, he was back to his lively and playful self, and this time, he polished off his food like a pro, marking a small victory for everyone involved.

At the same time, Pesto’s interest in Ethel, the resident dog, grew stronger. Even though he hadn’t yet learned how to jump or climb, he was determined to stay close to her and play. 

He wriggled out of his bed and tried to snuggle into Ethel’s fur, like a tiny explorer looking for new adventures. 

Soon after Ethel settled on her bed, she felt a gentle nudge from behind. It was Pesto, wanting her attention and inviting her to play, a small but persistent little force.

Though the kitten was tiny, he had a big spirit. He waddled over to Ethel, trying to nibble and playfully wrestle with her muzzle, like a brave little warrior challenging a gentle giant. 

Ethel, being a kind-hearted dog who loves every kitten she meets, patiently allowed Pesto to play and show off his tiny skills. 

He might not have known how to “cat” yet and was no bigger than Ethel’s paw, but his fierce attitude was clear, even convincing Ethel to let him take over her bed. He was definitely a master at getting what he wanted.

However, Pesto’s charm didn’t stop with Ethel. He also met Fletcher, a gentle older dog, and welcomed him with an unexpected bear hug, acting like a tiny, furry ambassador of love. 

The kitten had a unique talent for winning over everyone, including all his dog pals. It seemed like he had decided he was a dog trapped in a kitten’s body.

In just a week, Pesto had regained his appetite and was enjoying his meals more than ever. Each night, he cuddled up with his foster family to watch TV, happily sipping from his bottle before falling asleep on a cozy lap. 

It was a scene of pure happiness, a little kitten finding his spot in a world full of love and warmth!
