Woman Sees A Gray Lump Limping Through Long Island Park And Realizes It’s A Little Hurt Baby

Karenlynn Stracher has spent years helping animals in need. It’s what she loves and what she’s dedicated her life to.
But there’s always something special about each rescue and this one is no different.
It started with a call about a little creature spotted limping through a park on Long Island. Someone had seen it struggling to move and they weren’t sure what to do.

Karenlynn didn’t even think twice. She grabbed her stuff and rushed out the door, hoping the little one would hang in there just long enough for help to arrive.
As soon as she got to the park, she spotted a small gray puff tucked into the grass, barely moving. She walked closer, and the fuzzy shape slowly became clear.
It was a little gosling, soft and round like a little cotton ball, with a long delicate neck that wobbled as he tried to lift his head.

His skinny black legs looked so fragile, barely able to hold him up, and his tiny beak had this lost, anxious look like he wasn’t sure where he was or how he ended up all alone.
He was trying so hard to walk, but every step looked painful. His tiny body clearly wanted to keep going, but something just wasn’t working right.
Karenlynn could see how scared he was, and her heart just melted. He was exhausted, confused, and hurting. She knew she had to help him.

This wasn’t the first time Karenlynn had come across a baby bird in trouble like this. Unfortunately, it’s something she sees far too often.
Some hatch late. Some come into the world a little weaker. Some get hurt trying to keep up with their families.
And without someone to notice them, to stop and care, most don’t make it. It’s heartbreaking, but it’s the reality she’s come to know all too well.

Karenlynn gently scooped the gosling into her hands to examine him right away. She noticed that one of his tiny feet didn’t look quite right which had likely been the cause of his limp.
She didn’t want to take any chances so she decided to bring him to Sweetbriar Nature Center.
They had an amazing team of wildlife experts who could give him the care he truly needed.

The moment they saw the gosling, the team gave him a full exam to see what was going on. The diagnosis, thankfully, wasn’t anything too serious.
It was just a soft tissue injury. No broken bones, no lasting damage.
What he needed now wasn’t anything fancy, just rest, warmth, and a whole lot of love. And that’s exactly what he got.

Over the next few weeks, the little fluffball rested up and got stronger. Eventually, the big day came when he was finally released back into the wild.
Karenlynn was overjoyed, as she shared in an interview:
“I was thrilled to hear how well he had done and that he was able to be released and enjoy the life he was meant to live.”
Not every gosling is lucky enough to be found. But this one? He was. He got his second chance to waddle back into the world where he truly belongs.
