Tiny Piglet Rescued From Vicious Dog Attack Finds Hope And Healing At New York Sanctuary

Meet Mikey, a tiny piglet whose story will stay with you long after you finish reading.
When Mikey was only four weeks old, he went through something no baby animal should ever experience. He was attacked by a dog and left with life-threatening injuries.

Rescuers rushed him to Cornell University Animal Hospital in Ithaca, New York, praying it wasn’t too late.
At first, things didn’t look good. The vets warned that his injuries were severe, and if medical costs went over $500, euthanasia might be the only option.

It was a devastating thought for such a young, innocent creature who hadn’t even had a real chance to live yet.
But then came Todd, the founder of Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary in Parksville, New York, who refused to let Mikey’s story end like that. He believed this tiny pig deserved more than a tragic ending; he deserved love, hope, and a second chance.

So Todd brought Mikey under his wing and agreed to a risky, complex brain surgery where part of the piglet’s skull had to be removed to save his life.
It was a long, nerve-wracking process, and the early days of recovery were filled with uncertainty.

Mikey moved slowly, often too weak to even lift his head. But Todd never left his side. He talked to him softly, comforted him, and celebrated every small victory.
Slowly but surely, Mikey began to respond. Once he was strong enough to leave the hospital, Mikey finally went home to a cozy little crib Todd had set up just for him. It was warm, soft, and filled with love. Everything about it said, you’re safe now.

But Mikey’s battle wasn’t over yet. Soon after returning home, he developed a serious upper respiratory infection that sent him back to the vet.
It was another tough hurdle for such a tiny survivor, but Todd stood by him every step of the way. With daily nebulizer treatments, medication, and endless patience, Mikey fought through once again.

And then something beautiful started to happen. The fragile, frightened piglet began to transform.
Back at Arthur’s Acres, surrounded by people who adored him, Mikey’s personality bloomed. He started to play, explore, and enjoy life the way every baby animal should.

He even became Todd’s nighttime buddy, as Tod shared in a video:
“He sleeps in bed with me every night because I felt like he never got that nurturing from his mother. And he needed to heal and feel the nurturing, he needed to fight for his life.”
That love changed everything. Todd’s care gave Mikey not only his life back, but also the confidence to thrive.

Today, Mikey has grown into one of the most beloved residents at Arthur’s Acres Animal Sanctuary. He’s playful, funny, and adored by everyone.
In fact, he’s become something of a local celebrity, the unofficial mayor of the sanctuary. And honestly, it fits him perfectly.
He may be small, but Mikey’s journey has made a huge impact, showing that every life, no matter how tiny, deserves a chance to shine.
