Cat’s World Fell Apart When His Owner Passed, But His Resilience Led Him To A New Beginning

Cat’s World Fell Apart When His Owner Passed, But His Resilience Led Him To A New Beginning

Sharing is caring!

I have to admit, nothing makes me happier than reading about older shelter cats finding their second chance at happiness after it has seemed lost.

When I first discovered Mykonos, a lovely 6-year-old kitty from California named after the Greek island, my heart swelled with joy.

This adorable boy lost the one his heart loved and faced the harsh reality of living on the cold streets of Oakland, forced to fend for himself before a twist of fate changed his destiny.

Now, Mykonos enjoys a comfortable feline life, holding the memories of his past close to his heart as a reminder that life can change overnight – but also as a testament to the enduring power of love! Here’s his story!

The Event That Changed Everything

Mykonos wasn’t always a street cat. He once had an owner who loved him dearly, and with whom he enjoyed a quiet indoor life filled with laughter, treats, and endless cuddles.

But sadly, Mykonos’ owner suddenly passed away, and this sweet boy was left without anyone to care for him.

Sentenced to a harsh street life, Mykonos roamed the streets of his hometown, Oakland, relying on scraps of food and seeking shelter in sketchy places.

Thankfully, concerned neighbors spotted him one day, huddled under a porch. They contacted their local cat shelter, which gladly welcomed him.

Since Mykonos was an older cat with several health issues due to the stress of being abandoned, the odds of him ever getting adopted were very low.

However, kind rescuers from Oakland’s Cat Town fell head over heels for this “handsome hunk of love” and quickly found him a foster home.

On their official Facebook page, Cat Town bragged about Mykonos’ loving nature, calling him a “lovey-dovey purr muffin.”

They noted that although initially shy and reserved, Mykonos craved affection. He was all about cuddles, scratches, and rubs – the perfect pet if you ask me!

Since he was FIV positive, Mykonos needed to be an indoor cat, ideally the only feline in the household.

Cat Town was determined to find him the perfect forever home, no matter how long it took because he deserved to be loved. As his foster parents shared:

“This cat is BUILT, but is a total love bug. He is going to make some family very, very happy!”

Sudden Health Complications

With each passing day, Mykonos blossomed more and more in his foster home, letting his affectionate personality shine through.

However, after a few days, he lost his appetite, which greatly concerned his foster parents.

They took him to the emergency vet, where he was diagnosed with hepatic lipidosis, also known as fatty liver disease, and pancreatic inflammation

Several weeks after being diagnosed, Mykonos had to be fed through an esophageal tube four times a day to regain his strength and recover.

Despite these challenges, Mykonos’ resilient spirit never waned; he held onto hope that he would soon recover and live a happy and healthy life again.

Thanks to the unwavering support of the Cat Town volunteers, he made a swift recovery – a feat he could never have achieved had he stayed in the crowded shelter.

Love Finds A Way

During his recovery at Cat Town’s Adoption Center, Mykonos met a lovely couple who instantly fell head over heels in love with him!

They spent three hours getting to know him and, convinced he was “the one,” they submitted an adoption inquiry that very day.

And just like that, Mykonos – who had loved and lost, traded a warm home for cold streets, streets for shelter, and shelter for a foster home – finally got his second chance at happiness!

The couple adopted Mykonos, and he became part of a lovely family, which included a cat-friendly dog and a bunny.

His new family sent an update to the Cat Town staff, saying:

“Things have been going really well. He’s a bit skittish with new sights and smells, but has been building his confidence every day, eating well, playing, and asking for belly rubs. He’s such an amazing cat, so affectionate, and just really wants to be a part of the family.”

Despite Mykonos’s difficult journey, he finally got his ticket to happiness!

I’m so glad this sweet boy found a family ready to shower him with the love he deserves.

I’m sure his late owner is watching from above, happy that his beloved feline companion got the happy ending he’d been looking for.
