No One Believed This Deaf Cat Would Ever Leave New York Shelter Until A Miracle Arrived

One afternoon, Sarah, a lifelong cat enthusiast, set out to adopt from a shelter and offer a feline the loving home it deserved. What she didn’t expect was how challenging the journey would become.
When she arrived at the Patricia Ladew Foundation in New York, her eyes were immediately caught by a charming tortoiseshell cat named Polly.
Polly’s name came from a special trait – she was polydactyl, with an impressive seven toes on each of her front paws.

Polly, believed to be about 15 years old, had been rescued from a hoarding situation. She was deaf, timid, and kept to herself, still carrying the weight of her difficult past.
Despite her challenges, something told Sarah not to give up on her. Sarah shared in a video:
“She probably had lots of kittens and just seemed sad.”
In addition to her withdrawn personality, Polly was not in the best health. She had severe dental issues and was in considerable pain, requiring dental surgery.

Polly’s circumstances made her future seem uncertain, and many at the shelter feared she might never be adopted. That all changed the moment Sarah walked through the door.
Sarah knew their journey might be tough, but she was determined to give Polly all the love and care she needed. She said:
“I got the impression that she hadn’t had attention in a really long time. So, any attention she got, she was just over the moon, and she was so happy.”
When Polly first settled into her new home, she remained nervous and reserved, unsure of her surroundings.
But with Sarah’s steady patience and gentle care, she slowly began to open up, blossoming into a sweet, affectionate cat with a purr that could fill the room.

Polly soon found the courage to venture out, exploring every corner of her new home. She played and had fun with such energy that it seemed as though she was growing younger by the day.
It wasn’t long before she claimed her place as queen of the house, her newfound confidence shining through.
To everyone’s surprise, she fit right in with the other cats, happily cuddling and playing as though she had always been part of the family.

When she wasn’t with her feline friends, Polly could be found meowing loudly or cuddling with Sarah, her loving human. Sarah added:
“I really think that Polly knows that I took her home because she really purrs pretty much for me.”
Polly is truly a unique feline, and everyone who has met her agrees with that. She has big paws, no teeth, can’t hear, but that doesn’t stop her from living her best life. Sarah concluded:
“Love has healed her, love has completely healed her, her soul, her body.”

With a little patience, kindness, and love, amazing transformations are possible. Sarah never expected much when she chose Polly, yet what blossomed was a bond stronger than she could have imagined.
Polly proved to be an extraordinary cat, and Sarah couldn’t be happier knowing she will be her forever companion.
