Massachusetts Shelter Flooded With Adoption Requests For Three Extra-Special Kittens
Most of the time, the kennels and cat rooms at animal shelters are filled with mixed-breed pets, but you’d be surprised how many purebred animals end up there too.
Yep, even the fancy, “high-demand” breeds get abandoned, and shelters step up to give them the fresh start they deserve.
That’s exactly what happened at the Scituate Animal Shelter of Massachusetts, when someone walked in and surrendered three tiny kittens.
The shelter staff couldn’t turn them away, knowing these kittens might end up in a far worse situation. But what they didn’t expect was how special these kittens would be.
When the shelter staff looked closely at the kittens, they were completely captivated. Amanda Eddy Baker, the director of programs and operations at the shelter, said in an interview:
“You could call it a ‘cartoon moment’ – when eyes bugged and little hearts formed. I’d never seen kittens like that.”
Inside the box were three curly-haired kittens of the Selkirk Rex breed. These unique kittens immediately stood out.
“The staff was shocked, in the most delighted way. We see so many kittens each year, but I tell you, it never gets old.”
The Selkirk Rex is known for its curly fur, and these kittens were no exception. Despite their unusual appearance, they were in good health and quickly grew bigger and stronger, each revealing its own distinct personality.
The shelter staff were smitten, and soon, the kittens were ready to be adopted.
When the kittens were posted for adoption, the response was overwhelming. As Amanda explained:
“We had roughly 50 people email, which is A LOT for us. I man the emails, and they were literally rolling in.”
But that wasn’t the most surprising part.
Within just 13 minutes of posting the kittens online, all three were adopted, setting a new record for the shelter.
The staff couldn’t believe how quickly it all happened, but they knew one thing for sure: the kittens had found the best homes.
“We are very optimistic they will be amazing cats. They were already super social when they came in, a great sign.”
Now, the three Selkirk kittens are on their way to their new homes, where they will be loved and cherished just as they deserve.
Whether you’re looking for a kitten, a senior cat, a mixed breed, or a purebred, there’s always a variety of animals in need of a loving family.
Every cat deserves a home. Sometimes, those harder-to-adopt cats bring the most joy and love into our lives.
So, remember: when you visit a shelter, you never know what special animal will steal your heart.
