Small Orange Kitten Found On A Concrete Ledge In Bronx, Barely Holding On
Not long ago, on Clay Avenue in the Bronx, New York, a tiny orange kitten was discovered huddled on a cold concrete ledge.
He let out faint cries of pain, but with the hustle and bustle of passersby, no one seemed to notice his quiet calls for help.
The kitten was weak, malnourished, and his eyes were sealed shut, crusted with blood.
Thankfully, a compassionate passerby, moved by the kitten’s dire condition, decided to intervene and offer help.
He reached out to a group he trusted to take immediate action: Little Wanderers, a dedicated foster-based cat rescue and TNR organization in New York.
The kind-hearted team at Little Wanderers quickly stepped in, agreeing to take in the poor kitten and naming him Clayton, after the street where he was discovered.
Recognizing his critical condition, they rushed him to The Animal Medical Center, the world’s largest non-profit animal hospital based in New York City.
At the hospital, it was revealed that 8-month-old Clayton was battling a severe upper respiratory infection.
His body temperature was dangerously low, requiring immediate care, and an unpleasant odor hinted at an underlying injury.
Clayton was also struggling with severe anemia and bilateral pneumonia, requiring an intensive treatment plan that included antibiotics, gastrointestinal protection, fluids, and eye medications.
The most pressing concern, however, was his complete lack of appetite, which led to the decision to surgically insert a feeding tube to ensure he received the vital nutrition he needed.
Despite everything he had endured, Clayton proved to be an incredibly affectionate and gentle cat.
He was deeply grateful for his rescue, purring through his treatments without showing any signs of aggression or resistance.
He was soon placed in a loving foster home where he received the care and attention he had longed for.
Within just a few days, Clayton began to show signs of improvement, becoming a playful and energetic kitten once again.
Little Wanderers shared the good news with their Facebook friends, saying:
“Baby boy Clayton is at home with his wonderful foster mom @reb_lip and look how happy he is! That’s a feeding tube surgically inserted to provide nutritional support while he recovers from pneumonia and upper respiratory infection. It’s amazing and nothing less than a miracle.”
To his foster mom’s delight, Clayton soon began to show an interest in the food she was eating.
It wasn’t long before he made the full switch from tube feeding to solid food, happily purring with every bite. Just listen to him! Isn’t this the most satisfying sound?
From then on, Clayton’s health took a turn for the better. Day by day, he grew bigger, healthier, and stronger, blossoming into a real sweetheart.
Clayton eventually found his forever home, where he now lives as a happy and spoiled kitty. His days of being neglected on the cold streets of New York are long behind him.
Those difficult times have become distant memories, making room for a bright and hopeful future for this incredible cat.
