Cross-Eyed Cat Lingers At An Arizona Home For Days, Then Finds The Courage To Enter
This sweet cat spent his days lingering around a woman’s home, returning again and again until he finally stepped inside and discovered the comfort waiting for him there.
Reggie, a handsome orange tabby, was one of 25 cats included in the Tucson cat colony TNR (trap-neuter-return) programme, a dedicated effort to help control overpopulation and prevent the spread of illness.
However, Reggie stood out from the rest, not just because of his cross-eyed look and unusually large nose, but also because of his sweet and friendly nature.
Courtney, a dedicated cat rescuer from Poets Square Cats, shared:
“Not just because he’s cross-eyed and has an inexplicably large nose. He was so sweet and friendly.”
Arcelia, a volunteer with Southern Arizona Cat Rescue, looked after Reggie along with the rest of the colony.
Once he was neutered, Reggie decided not to wander far. Instead, he stayed close to Arcelia’s home, often keeping her company while she cared for other cats in need.
Reggie was always eager for affection and attention. Arcelia said:
“He would plop himself down in the middle like he was the star of the show.”
When it was time to leave, he would jump into the car, hoping to accompany them.
Reggie and Arcelia developed a mutual understanding. During feeding times, he made his presence known, never missing a day. As Arcelia shared:
“He came to eat every single day. He hung outside my house and would sleep on top of my car or in a cut-down palm tree in the back.”
Reggie quickly made it clear that what he wanted most was attention.
He carried himself like the “main cat” of the neighbourhood, always reminding everyone he had more to give than simply being part of the TNR project.
Deep down, he longed for a real home, and he wasn’t shy about showing it.
Even with her home full of sick and vulnerable rescues, Arcelia always kept Reggie in mind.
And when one of her foster cats finally moved on to a forever home, she kept her word and opened her door to Reggie, making him a part of her own family.
He was already at home in her heart, so why not her house as well?
Reggie waited patiently for his moment, and now his time has come. These days, he enjoys the comfort of life indoors, curling up in his foster mum’s arms and sinking into the softest blankets he’s ever known.
He couldn’t wait to play with Arcelia’s puppy, as they used to have fun during their walks before. Arcelia added:
“Reggie has the sweetest personality, he’s super playful and gets along with everyone.”
Reggie is at last enjoying the life he longed for and truly deserved. His days are filled with snuggling into cozy spots, soaking up cuddles from his mum, and playing with an endless supply of toys that seem to appear daily.
He thrives on meeting new people, happily accepting their affection, and one of his greatest joys is being scooped up and held close.
Saving so many cats and matching them with the right homes took immense effort, but the rescue teams made it happen.
As for Reggie, he’s perfectly happy staying right where he is, settled in Arcelia’s home. These days, he lives without worry, completely content and at peace.
