Texas Teacher Finds Hairless Puppy Outside School And Promises To Give Him A Loving Home

It started as just another ordinary school day for Aaron Tanguma in Texas, filled with lesson plans, classroom chatter, and the usual chaos of teaching. But one unexpected message from a coworker stopped him in his tracks:
“There’s a dog hiding in the outdoor bathroom.”
Without hesitation, Aaron headed out to see for himself. What he found would change his life.

Curled up on the cold floor was a dog in heartbreaking condition. His skin was bare and inflamed, his ribs sharp beneath his fragile frame. Mange had ravaged his body, leaving behind painful sores and patches of raw skin.
Aaron could hardly believe what he was seeing. Yet, beneath all that suffering, the dog’s eyes told a different story, one of quiet hope. There was a spark, faint but unmistakable, that seemed to say, “Please don’t leave me here.”
Aaron gently offered him some food. The dog, too weak to bark or wag his tail, cautiously ate every bite. That was the moment Aaron knew, he couldn’t walk away.
Later that day, he brought the dog home. He named him Apollo.

Aaron and his fiancée, Renee Gonzales, already shared their home with four rescue cats.
They were experienced animal lovers, but Apollo’s condition presented new challenges. They had to be careful, keeping everyone safe while tending to the fragile newcomer.
His appearance was so severe that even a vet visit felt daunting. Aaron and Renee feared that the veterinarian might recommend euthanasia, believing Apollo’s recovery to be impossible.
But giving up wasn’t an option. Instead, they decided to do everything they could to heal him themselves.
They bought special medications for mange, researched every detail of treatment, and began a slow, careful healing process.

For the first few months, Apollo’s progress was steady but demanding. His skin started to calm, the redness fading little by little. He finally began to sleep without constant itching.
As Aaron later shared in an interview:
“It took about 3 months for his skin to fully heal and another 3 [to] 4 months to grow his fur out fully.”
After nearly ten months of love and care, Apollo’s transformation was nothing short of astonishing.

The once-hairless, timid dog had become almost unrecognizable. His fur was thick and healthy again, and his eyes, once full of fear, now sparkled with life.
At first, Apollo was quiet and withdrawn. He slept most of the day, too exhausted to play or even explore. But as his body grew stronger, his spirit followed.
Slowly, the old sadness melted away and the real Apollo began to shine through, goofy, affectionate, and full of joy. Renee recalled:
“His personality has completely changed from when he was depressed, and he’s always smiling and happy to see us.”

Apollo officially became an indoor dog, leaving his hard past behind. Today, he spends his days soaking up belly rubs, racing around the beach, and cuddling up with his favorite humans.
His story quickly spread online, inspiring thousands who were moved by his unbelievable transformation. Renee shared proudly:
“People are loving his story and have said it’s the best transformation they have ever seen.”
From a sick, hairless stray to a healthy, joyful companion, Apollo’s journey is a powerful reminder of what love and patience can do.
He’s proof that every life is worth saving, that even the most broken souls can find their way back with a little kindness, a warm bed, and people who refuse to give up on them.
Now, when Aaron and Renee look at Apollo snoozing peacefully at home, they can’t help but smile.
The scared, frail dog they once found hiding in a school bathroom has become the heart of their family, happy, healthy, and loved beyond measure.
