Texas Volunteer Makes Unexpected Decision After Meeting Sweet Pup Scheduled For Euthanasia

When it comes to Madeline, a Texas volunteer and a dog fosterer, one thing is for sure –  she easily falls for dogs in need of help.

One day, she walked into a Texas shelter and locked eyes with a sweet Pittie named Maya.

Having already a busy schedule, Madeline couldn’t do anything to help her. However, the moment she learned Maya was scheduled for euthanasia, everything changed…

Maya stood up on her hind paws and gave Madeline a heart-wrenching look behind the bars, hoping for a chance at a better life, but all Madeline could do was walk away.

That night, she couldn’t stop thinking about Maya. Madeline realized that Maya already captured her heart. She shared in the Bark About It Rescue post:

“I tried to keep walking but she was so squinty eyed and thumping her tail so shyly that I reluctantly backtracked and obviously immediately fell in love.”

Madeline knew she couldn’t turn a blind eye to Maya, so she took immediate action. She asked one of her colleagues, Amairany, if she could step in as a foster for Maya for a few days while Madeline went on a trip.

Fortunately, Amairany agreed, and just like that, Maya escaped euthanasia and got a second chance in life.

After only a few days, Maya joined Madeline at home with her other dog, Margot. Both of them were super excited to be together.

Maya quickly adjusted to her new environment and turned out to be such a sweet and gentle pup.

Everything seemed perfect until it was time for them to part. Madeline couldn’t stop the tears because, though she wanted to keep Maya, she didn’t want to fail as a foster because of other dogs in need.

However, what Madeline didn’t expect was a perfect surprise from her husband, Jerred…

Jerred showed up at their home with a little box that had a collar and Maya’s name on it. 

At first, Madeline was confused, but once she realized that Jerred had secretly adopted Maya, she broke down in tears of joy. The Texas shelter shared:

“After many discussions and cry sessions from Madeline, her husband, Jerred, decided he’d make the decision so she wouldn’t have to and gave us a call. Jerred secretly officially adopted Maya.”

After everything Maya had been through, she finally found a forever home with a family who would love her unconditionally. Madeline shared on Instagram:

“Jerred had to bear with me crying about it for weeks, and knew I was never really at peace with letting her go. I told him that whether we kept her or sent her, I just wanted it to be his fault L O L, so he made the decision so I didn’t have to, and I am so glad he did.”

Madeline no longer had to worry about making a decision because Maya was finally her girl.

Now, this loving family is living a happy life, and Maya is finally where she was always meant to be.

She spends her days playing, cuddling, and going on various adventures. She’s living her best life, all thanks to her wonderful family!
