South Carolina Cat Gets Abandoned By Her Family After 18 Years With A Heart-Wrenching Note

Sometimes, when people can’t care for their pets anymore, they take them to animal shelters.

It’s a kinder choice than leaving them on the streets, sure, but it still means a big, scary change for them.

Tori, an 18-year-old cat, faced this very challenge when her family brought her to Kershaw County Humane Society in South Carolina, leaving her to adjust to a completely new life.

Shelter staff were shocked to discover Tori in a crate at their door. 

However, what shocked them even more was a heartbreaking note that was attached to the crate. In it, Tori’s owners explained that they were leaving her behind because she no longer wanted to use the litter box.

The note also revealed that they now had a kitten and didn’t want to deal with cleaning up after her, choosing convenience over the well-being of the cat who had been part of their family for nearly two decades.

The shelter welcomed Tori with open arms, determined to find her a new loving home she so rightfully deserved. They shared a post about Tori on Facebook, saying:

“She is very sweet and just like every other animal in this shelter we will do everything we can to help her. But being a shelter we can only do so much. We are hopeful that someone will step up to help this baby.”

Even though Tori was a senior feline, the shelter hoped only for the best. They instantly provided her with a thorough examination, and besides her ingrown nails, she proved to be in good health.

The vets removed three nails that had become embedded in Tori’s paw, and immediately, she began to flourish. With the care she needed, Tori was ready for the next chapter. 

Thanks to a Facebook post from the shelter, many people expressed interest in adopting her.

It didn’t take long for Tori to steal someone’s heart. Dan saw her and instantly fell in love. The very next morning, he went to the shelter and offered her the chance for a fresh start.

Tori adjusted beautifully to her new home, even using the litter box on her own without a hitch. She was content, relaxed, and incredibly happy to have found a place where she was loved.

Later, Tori’s humans discovered the possible reason for her previously inappropriate elimination. Laura Beyer, her human, shared in an interview:

“We ended up treating her for UTI using doxycycline even though nothing showed on her cultures. Once we put her through the course of antibiotics the inappropriate elimination stopped.”

Thankfully, Tori is now a healthy, happy cat, thriving in her new home surrounded by loving humans who cherish her. 

She’s living a life she could never have imagined, especially after the heartbreak of being left at the shelter by her previous owners.

Tori’s journey is a testament to the power of second chances and the impact of compassionate care. 

What once seemed like an uncertain future is now filled with warmth, security, and the love she deserves.
